There's plenty of competition in the JRPG genre this gen. Tales of games are probably the most popular. Others I can think of are White Knight Chronicles and Valkyra Chronicles..

The Xbox brand just isn't that strong in Japan.
Think of all the big games in Japan. Final Fantasy and Resident Evil. Yes, Xbox 360 has them and they might get exclusive DLC or demos but these franchises have a long history with Playstation.
