GT is canon; it was officially confirmed when the BotG came out. They said it was a canon film taking place near the end of Z but before GT.
I'm no detective but how can a canon film take place before a non-canon series? If it's non-canon then it shouldn't be mentioned.

Xenogears is pretty good but I prefer lighter sci-fi elements, personally. Square was as diverse as they were fantastic back in the day. They're just mobile bozos now.
Developers shouldn't be pressured to fit an agenda. If you want that kind of game, make it yourself.
