You're mistaken for sure from a owner with dark skin. I have no problems with one lamp on with a 80 watt bulb. Works with every light on and with little light. Never tried it in the dark because I don't watch TV in complete dark. Kinect is no more racist than a T100 Terminator or a Predator is.
This tech is so impressive. Your living room seems alive with it. Games have me exited and engaged like the first time I played a computer game(Video game)I have a smile on my face with the excitement of a kid when I play this thing. It makes games so personal when you physically connect to a computer. It's so different and fresh. I look at my 360 like it's ahead of its time now(like WTF?!. I can't stop thinking about the experience no matter where I am and what I'm doing.

A lot of media catered to the doubt the hater created in the industry. You will see a lot of magic second opinions that are positive as the consumer masses show the media were being timid, with their wallets. I'm sure there will be reports of people having issues due to putting Kinect in cabinets etc.
