well obviously not I guess (It looked like they only listed sales of games selling over 4million).
" Highlights (comparisons are to the quarter ended December 31, 2006)
-- EA Partners posted its strongest quarterly performance ever driven by Rock Band, Half Life(R) 2 Orange Box, Crysis(R) and Hellgate(TM): London."
So they sound happy enough with it to me, and I think if the game was given platinum status then it would be a bit of a stretch to sugges...
I think your average console wouldn't have the required ram to support all the on-screen objects that crysis requires. Although they can run the engine, Farcry 2 is generally far more barren, has fewer trees/buildings/mountains and has noticeably lower polygon counts (and instead appears to rely more heavily on shaders).
I very much doubt Crysis will come to consoles in this generation without majorly scaling down the resolution of the textures, the number of polygons on screen o...
You should really give portal a try - it is widely regarded as one of the best, if not one of the shortest, titles of the year.
"Stick with major brands like HP, Asus, Dell and Acer."
If the author had any credibility left by this stage he lost it.
"Another option is to go to Dell's website and custom-build an XPS 720 desktop, which start at $3,099 for dual-core 2.4GHz processor, 2GB RAM and 500GB hard drive."
I'm planning to build something like this for a bit under AUD$1300 including an 8800GT, which brings me to my other point - there was no mention of undeniably the mos...
The author of the article (Patti Neighmond) doesn't make a single reference to gaming, but rather looks to higher education, financial responsibilities and stronger family ties as bing the reason it takes longer for *people* (not just men) to become adult. The gaming spin was placed there purely by NPR (the website) and I feel they're taking a jab at gaming where no link exists - either that or they've grossley misinterpreted the article.
Nice stats Relcom - pity they dont match up with the article you're commenting on.
That may happen, though there are a few things to take into consideration:
1) ATI has always been better at implementing multicard systems - though a single 3870 is slower than a single 8800GT, they are very closely matched in crossfire/SLI setups.
see: http://www.tomshardware.com...
2) the price: ati has marketed their current range o...
BC is a pretty big deal to me, I don't own a console (last one I bought was a SNES and it's been all PC since then), but if I were to choose a current gen console it would be a PS3 mainly because of blu-ray support and backward compatibility.
Even though I don't have a huge back catalog of PS2 games my friends do, and with games like God of War 2 coming out as well as the odd casual interest in games like GTA:Vice city stories it really is a a major selling point for some peopl...
World of Warcraft sold a shade under 10 million subscriptions at US$15 every month of last year lol.
Why is the whole sales things such a contentious issue? Are the new StarWars films better than the original trilogy just because they sold more copies? (note I'm not hinting that one game is better than another here, just that sales are not indicative of quality).
Just to clarify - I love Valve and steam, it's been great to me and I've bought a dozen or so games through them. It's just Stalker that I had hesitations about buying (...and Activision games - they pretty much screw over Australians and New Zealanders with their pricing structure)
Q1 2008, sorry I can't be more specific :(.
Wasn't the original terrible to get working on steam? (the forums were full of people advising people to buy retail)....and it was made unavailable to Australia/New Zealand and a few other countries (because the publisher realised they could be getting more of buyers through inflated store prices).
Hopefully it's a good game, I think I might end up buying retail though.
Nice article, though I doubt pc games sales would come out in front I'm quite sure online sales would help to close the gap. I don't think I know of a single PC user who bought a retail version of Orange box; in Australia the STEAM version is almost half the cost, plus it allowed you to play the tf2 beta.
With WOW revenue estimated to be around US$8billion a year the online market is not something to be overlooked.
I paid for the full version too, it's a top game and I hope it continues to improve with a commercial publisher.
I've personally always prefered GTA on pc, the shooting elements are a lot more streamlined (imho of course), and the game has some of the best mods of any game I've played (draw distance multiplier, joeys nos mod, spaceinstein pack and superCJ come to mind, not to mention multiplayer mods...though thats probably a moot point given it's inclusion in gta4).
Each to his own I guess (the ps handled great and got it first afterall)
Yet Rockstar have always released the dates for the PC version after the ps3 version, this is no different to anything since GTA3.
They have European dates because it's a European publication and a European developed game, America will probably get it at around the same time, give or take a few days.
...if there are 10,000 out there, and they're "worth" $5,500 each, that means there 55million dollars worth of Adventure Vision systems out there. Methinks I better track them all down and sell them.
Seriously though, thats way overpriced for something that can only play 4 games.
PMR_21 - he's probably comparing it to you know....other games, say like crysis, which does look better, and has lower system requirements. It should also be noted that games with (arguably) comparable visuals to Assassin's Creed have much lower system specs.
crunchie101 isn't arguing that Assassin's Creed is terrible, merely that the pc system requirements are dis proportionally high when compared to other current gen games
hmm sounds kind of interesting, though I'd like to know if it allows the option of kidnapping and holding hostage Australian and British citizens (as all good whale scientists do these days ;-) ).
Just to put a few things out there:
-"open" means that there is no form of licensing or ownership per se, both sony and microsoft (and anyone else who wants to) could build this console, and both could implement their own specific features (blu-ray anyone?). A new powerful iteration of the new open console could be released every few months, the only limitation being that it must be able to support the games being produced.
-the developers would not need to pay...
top posts ulath666 and theox2g7!!
@Boink - I think the transition that you've gone through (PC->console) has been a bit of a trend, especially in the States. I agree with the statement that PC gaming is "just to complicated for most", but I still think that the gaming industry is large enough to support the relatively large niche that is PC gaming.
While many are leaving the pc in favour of the simplicity of and ease-of-use of the consoles, there is stil...
