I reckon Opera is probably the best one out of the box, just for its clean interface, integrated download/torrent/Rss feed managers and speed, but at home I tend to use firefox, just because it is a bit more customisable and you can get most of opera's features and then a few more after a bit of tweaking.

The article didn't make much of a mention of the 2 companies past history- Intel has has pulled some nasty stops on nVIDIA in the motherboard market in the past, the two companies have never really gotten on that well.
Also nVIDIA have a bit of a strategic partnership with AMD - an Intel-based enthusiasts CPU+MOBO+GPU combo would hurt both companies and could perhaps result in a bit of a monopoly.

Haha - if WoW is a failure, what credibility does that lend to the people who saying it - The combined profits of Puzzle Pirates, Fiesta, MapleStory and Gaia wouldn't even be in the same ball park as WoW.

if WoW=not a success, then their product=epic fail

nah, you *need* that case - silicon drive mounts, 120mm silent fan, piano-black finish and the inclusion of a front eSata port make it all worth it. It comes with a really great PSU as well, its only 500W, but it has insane efficiency (so much so that real world power output is greater than most 650W units) and it has plenty of power coming out of the 12 and 5v rails. (yeah, I bought one a few weeks ago and have been loving it).

The prices are generally more expensive than what I...

Gee that's a lot of hate....and I think you contradicted yourself a bit there. Just to clarify Gabe didn't work on the PS3 port and neither did Valve (as you mentioned, it was outsourced to EA). Also I don't think Gabe said the PS3 (of L4D iirc) version wouldn't sell (although it didn't compared to the PC version), only that it wasn't really worth the relative time/effort it would take to port it (as we're talking about a completely different type of system). In fact, I don't think Gabe's pro...

Pretty odd article IMHO, everyone with Vista would go for the service pack, if not for gaming then for faster file transfers, extra security and better compatibility. The real question is whether it's yet worth the upgrade for XP users - As it stands there is no compelling reason for someone like myself to purchase vista. Though there isn't anything hugely wrong with it you can get more fps on XP and it simply isn't worth the money.

@ the ox - from the article it looks like Roy Taylor (Nvidia VP of content relations) agrees.

"For another, publishers and developers are laboring under the illusion that PC gaming is in trouble, and the most misinformed are looking at not even developing for the PC."

It's all just a matter of perception and missinformation (which is kind of disconcerting given these people get paid for making these judgments).
love your posts btw, they're always spot...

I'm sure both the 360 and the ps3 would handle the cry-engine just fine, but I'm quite sure that they don't have nearly enough ram to run crysis in it's current state. The number of on-screen objects is pretty huge, to make confine it to the 512mb of ram or whatever the consoles have would mean reducing texture quality greatly, reducing the number of textures (say like having just one type of tree/one type of rock texture etc) or a combination of these.

Again, just so I don't get...

512mb 8800GT's are going for a song at the moment too, I bought one a few weeks ago and I've very happy with it. Compare a few charts with the prices you can get em for and pick the one with the most fps/$. Tom's hardware is a good place to start for the charts (note that it doesn't list the 512mb 8800 GTS charlie was talking about though):

After you take digital distribution into account PC sales have never been stronger. It's a multibillion dollar industry and it's continuing to evolve and grow as a platform. I'm pretty sure these signs aren't indicative of a dying platform

...or you could, I don't know, figure it out yourself and learn something. But yeah I agree, most people are both too lazy and too ignorant to do this.

It really comes down to what you're going to use it for - if you want to do video or audio encoding I'd say go for the quad core, but if it's just for gaming then dual core is probably the better option at the moment. The rational - most games are coded for a single core, a second core will see a decent improvement (as it will run things like sound and background apps), but the benefits of additional cores after that are largely esoteric. See Tom's CPU chart for benchmarks and choose a produc...

"You can also buy 600 cheeseburgers at McDonalds"
QFT - it's really a case of horses for courses, the PS3 is great in the living room, but some (not all) games really need a PC to do them justice. Also as the ox said PC's can do a whole lot more non-gaming stuff.

It should be noted that this is a top of the line card - much cheaper cards (such as an 8800GT or 9600GT) will still get you better graphics than most consoles, but this is really for the enthusiasts and ...

It does however result in revenue in excess of 2million, which would make it a multi-million dollar seller (this is what I interpreted the OP as saying in the first place)
