If you play by yourself, Carver (the second character) will not be next to you while you play.
however, the story of the whole game is co-op. meaning it is a co-op game first and then they made the option to play alone second.
i wanna point out that how do you make a single player game built around a co-op story.
The story is co-op no matter how you play it even if Carver isn't walking next to you.
It is a co-op game that can be played with one player, not the other way around.
Before this new addition to the Plus subscription (the instant game library of 12 games) all Plus members got 1 PSN game, 2 mini games, 1 PS1 game, a theme, and some avatars every month.
That makes 12 PSN games, 24 minis, 12 PS1 games, and a bunch of themes and avatars for the entire year. 4 or 5 of those months you get MORE content that goes above the subscription minimum. We have gotten FULL PS3 games, additional PSN games, and so on.

yes, it is optional but that doesn't mean crap.
You can't make a proper single player game with the option to play as co-op. You need to make a co-op game FIRST and then make it playable in SP.
The STORY involves Clarke and Carver, the story doesn't change from SP to co-op. so basically, EVERYTHING was made first with two players in mind and then they took out Carver to make it an optional single player game.
The whole game is made built around co-op. yes, you CAN play the game solo, but the STORY is the same..and that includes the addition of Carver. It is basically playing a co-op game by yourself.
