This Battlefront II situation eh?

Hammerfell seems like a good bet to me.

It's the right size.

It's a human province.

And the clincher. It's one of the big three fantasy landmass types.

Cyrodiil was temperate with lush green forests and Skyrim is cold with snowy mountains - Morrowind was a volcanic and an altogether stranger place and so was a 'different' approach.

Hammerfell is an arid desert land mostly, with a bunch o...

Unfortunately, the system can't be fair mathematically, because human beings don't rationalise that way. I'm no philosopher or psychologist or mathematician, but here's my attempt at explaining it.

We have the notion of 100% but we don't 'use' the whole scale because 50%, while being mathematically half, does not work as an 'average' if we want to have quality.

We are successful as people and as a species because we consis...

I really don't see what people are complaining about. I'm one of the most picky people I know when it comes to graphics and I've played almost every shooter ever made since the 80s and what I've seen in the beta, on both PC (ultra) and PS3, is clearly one of the best and most graphically 'advanced' games on the market. The only console FPS I've played with better visuals is Killzone 3, which doesn't have the scale of this game (and is 1st party).

Really sorry, didn't meant to disagree with you there but I am writing on an iphone FAIL and I accidentally hit the button. Can't find a way to take it back! Sorry!

I actually agree with you. Also, I did mean IF people had started on Kz2, my bad. I liked the controls in both though, especially Move on KZ3.

Again, sorry about the disagree, annoying I can't take it off. Bloody phones.

Quickly, to the 2 disagrees, that's cool guys, but agree or not, you can see that I put quite a bit of thought into my comment and try to present an argument that is not brought up very often.

I'd be interested to know what exactly you disagree with. I love Killzone 3. I thought it had great FPS gameplay, but that the 'story' had it's faults, namely the lack of compelling characters to 'sell' the future war scenario, and I feel that this may have...

The problem with Killzone is nothing to do with the gameplay - which I think is pretty stellar for any fps. It's all about the setting and the story. Killzone's military/sci-fi war is so far removed from anything remotely relatable, it struggles to provide a charismatic experience for the player. Yes, the Space Nazi Helghast have an undeniable iconography that lends spice to the waves of faceless enemies players must blaze through, but the cast of main characters - the only real hope ...

Yeah, I agree with you there. I'll adjust my opinion to F2P 'shooters' for now.

Some games that go F2P after a while like those MMOs are bound to have the advantage of that original dev time and money spent - like TF2.

So I guess it's not set in stone, but I'd be wary of any quickly released F2P action games these days.

P.S. I got Age of Conan when it first came out and played for a couple of months. Thought it was pret...

OK, I'll save you guys some time. I just downloaded it and gave it a quick try.

Here's the thing. The visuals are poor, even on ultra settings. The animations are stiff and unsophisticated and the gun-play is rigid with no sense of authenticity or weight. Lag was an issue, people warping everywhere, and hit-detection seemed iffy. Hard to tell, though, given the massive lack of response and feedback from the weapons and animations.

This was all immedia...

I'm starting to despair at these too-numerous-to-count gaming news/blog site reviews.

It seems some of these sites choose a purposely provocative line to sell - 'horrible environments', 'graphics could be better' - and then turn out a score that is fair but completely bizarre given the irritated/condescending tone of the reviews.

Sure, Killzone 3 is a 8 or 9 out of 10 game (given my impression from the betas and demo) and most people agree...

So many issues with this. I'm going to take the time to write a properly argued response.

But this is drivel.

I appreciate it when someone attempts an intellectual approach to highlight issues with game design and gaming culture. But I'm afraid, unless the author has been studying from some alternate universe textbooks and playing alternate universe versions of the games he's talking about, then I can see no source for any of the 'evidence'...

For anyone worried about the fairness of Move vs DS3, I wouldn't worry. Move is not as stable as a mouse-keyboard set-up, and as the camera and pointer are not synced, there's no direct competition between the two control schemes. As some people have said, the Move is better for aiming at enemies in your line of sight, but DS3 does have the advantage of strafing and circling your enemies. DS3 also allows you to hold the pointer steady just by letting the stick flick back to the centre...

Oh, I know the deadzone can be reduced. But it doesn't reduce as far as say, MAG, or MC: Domination. 0% on KZ3 seems a little larger than the smallest deadzone on MAG - or it may simply be that the acceleration of the turn is slower in KZ3 at first. It doesn't matter much, because the turning itself is a lot smoother and more adaptive in KZ3.

I think what most people will be surprised about, and something most people who've not go on with move fps controls seem to miss, is that it's not a 'more casual' controller (as it has been promoted) - it's actually a heck of a lot more difficult to learn and master than DS3. People get confused and frustrated that it's not 'pick up and play', just because it looks and appears like it should be.

In reality there's much more going on with th...

Cool man,

the real question is how many people figured it out like you and I did?

That's why I made the video.

And you're right, I don't have any desire to go back to the DS3 now. It just feels so restrictive.

Depends on what you like. It's more tactical and strategic than COD. You have to invest in it a bit. But the scale of it can't be compared to anything else and it's really impressive when you feel like you're in the midst of a full-on battle. The shooting is very solid too (headshots matter), and there's loads of different weapons/accessories. Can be a love or hate thing. Best description is that it's like Battlefield 2 back in the day.

Thumbs up from ...

Fillion is so obviously perfect for the role you really have to wonder what the studio is thinking with Wahlberg.

Yes he's a good actor but is he anything like the Drake we see in the game? No. Not one bit. He's a gruff, moody, intense type. Drake is a rugged, wry, wise-cracking man's man.

Fillion might be a bit metro these days, but that's just the TV role. And as for the fitness question. Actors change shape for roles all the time. It's...

The content of the game has nothing to do with whether it's 'hardcore', or not.

It's the sophistication of the actions the player can perform in the game that make it hardcore. The basic level of the core experience is moving a character and controlling perspective freely within a game world (why do you think it's called a 'controller'?). Think Doom onwards. Add reason/logic-based problem solving, goals that require varied skills to be mastered, ta...

I'm as excited about Black Ops as I have been for every COD game. They're fun and well-made. COD 4 was great, but I found MW2 a dance-about frag-fest with little or no strategy involved.

People would spawn anywhere and just RUN in a given direction until they either got a kill or were killed. It could have been on rails for all the freedom the level design allowed. Where's the point in scoping out an area for danger or clearing a room, when 1 second later enemies...

Now, I'm not the type to be offended. Try to understand. But I applaud Xi for having the courage to post that reply.

I grew up with 'gay' being used as a pejorative at school. Pretty much everyone did it. I did it. Kids still do. It's natural for 12-13 year old kids to be uneasy about the whole concept of sexual preference. But as an adult, I've had to hold my hands up and say, yes, that was wrong. It's essentially the same as racism. Yes. It is. Think...

Good point.

But with the 'floating zone off' option, surely it would just make Move the equivalent of a mouse or right stick? Maybe the sensitivity would have to be turned down, but 'FZ off' would simply lock the 'look' and 'aim' commands as is the norm in pretty much all FPS games. It's just quicker.
