Seems like most people who play it think the gameplay is excellent. But I can't help feel this was a strategic mistep on a number of levels for EA. Ironically, I don't think greed is anything to do with it - I think it was just a misunderstanding of what would be popular. WW2 isn't exactly the in thing right now. And the version of WW2 they went for isn't even the version that most people think of - it was a bold idea, but I don't see where there was any evidence that it w...
Very much agree.
I don't mean to take away from your comment, but I think there's a related point to be argued here. Compaines should definitely pay attention to the complaints and opinions of their customers. Criticism though, well there's an argument that to be able to critique something effectively requires understanding and research. And that the loss of respect that we have for criticism stems from the loss of the art. Real criticism requires careful and t...
But this is not what any of this is about. The article is simply about the controversy caused by a content creator making videos only about killing a feminist character. The notion that this is some SJW backlash against RDR2 is bait. Pure and simple. Don't listen to people jumping to conclusions based on clickbait headlines that 'women' are outraged or asking for special treatment over this. That's just not happening. Literally no one has said that it's ok to show male vio...
I think there is an intelligent conversation to be had about simulated violence and free will in videogames and the psychological benefits or problems. But this immediately struck me as a classic case of content creators baiting media to get attention. I don't think anyone still cares that GTA style games allow violence towards virtual characters of any gender or creed. And what writers care about is finding cultural flashpoints to address serious and non-serious social issues.

It all depends how well they can innovate. The gameplay revamp in Origins was smart and impactful. If they can keep doing that why not? But yes, the concept needs some restraint for it not to get tired. Iteration can be dull if it seems like minor additions here and there, but it can also push the genre forward. I think Ubi has definitely brought new ideas to the table for open world game design. Frankly though, I still don't think I've enjoyed an open world game more than Arkham City...
At some point Lucasfilm is going to want to do something new in this era, so this isn't surprising. The Old Republic is popular, so it's not going away. Though it will probably be rebooted in a new canaon. I'm interested to see if the new Game of Thrones creators' film series plays in this timeline - it would seem to fit with the style of GOT - though that's not a given.
On the controller, it'd be cool if if was either in two parts - like VR controllers - or able to split in two. This would remove one barrier to PS5 syncing up with whatever the next PSVR offers. As long as there's an analog stick on each then it's 100% compatible. It just allows more flexibility for motion controlls, pointer precision and VR hands of need be...
Totally agree that it should be done well and ethically. Tokenism is never very effective.
I was simply just trying to push back against the fear and anger I see at the changing environment of gaming. We, and I mean men (especially white men), are not losing anything. There's always teething issues that come with change and gaming companies are trying to expand their audience and make sure gaming isn't as purely male-socialized as it has been for a while. But there&...
... and despite the fact that most games are still mostly marketed at men, feature men in lead roles and involve traditionally 'male' things like extreme violence and war, many men will complain (directly or indirectly) that gaming is being 'stolen' and twisted away from their hands, invaded by so called 'SJW' values and 'femnazis'. Cause we all hate men, right? All people who don't hate women on some level, must hate men right? Cause that's how we defi...
SJW is a meaningless criticism. It's an insult that encapsulates the rewiring of the concept of justice needed to support certain prejudicial and discriminatory ideologies. That's because, in of itself, there's no evidence or ethical argument to suggest social justice (justice for all) is a detriment to people, unless you agree with a broken concept of democratic justice - that justice isn't blind and does not seek balance. This is why the use of the term 'SJW' is a si...
Really enjoyed the beta. It's got some rough edges, sure, but I think making it feel more hardcore (less health, ammo, more deadly weapons) is the right call in a world where Battle Royale and survival games are so popular. It's not as accessible anymore, perhaps, but ultimately it feels more competitive, more tactical, and more skill based. Squad play does feel more important to success.
But yeah, not having the BR upfront is going to give it tougher competition. ...
I have to admit the amount of support that pretty fringe views appear to have in comments sections has been rather shocking. I don't really care if people troll. Trolls will troll. But I do think that it's worrying when what I think most countries/ communities would call 'anti-social' views are becoming normalised, at least, among communities of 'gamers'. It gives gaming a bad rep.
Edit: having said that, I also don't agree with censorship, unle...
Good. They have nothing to excuse. They can make their game as inclusive and diverse as they want. If it's fun and well made, I'm in. The fact that it's unashamedly progressive in its attempt to include groups that have normally been sidelined in this genre is a bonus.
If you feel this is not something you like, sorry, but it's totally OK for people to support a society that wants to treat people like they have rights and give some people a leg up. Get over ...
I mean, I think it's fair to say it 'was going to be' the devil of MTs. They removed all paid MTs before the game launched due to the backlash. Ironic.
But the damage was done. I think it's fair to say it represents one of the worst examples of how loot crates and MTs can ruin in-game progression systems. Even after they stripped out the paid components, what was left has a poorly designed system with hardly any logical linear progression. No wonder it wasn&...
Oh Star Wars and EA....wait I know this one...
Something something 'robbing us of our money', something something 'ruined Star Wars', something something 'SJWs', something.
There ya go internet, I saved you some trouble for today. I'll just go back to generally enjoying entertainment and life now. Cya.
Please be 2143 - I don't think it will be, but yeah...
I have a feeling it will be WW2.
Big thing, for me, was that the progression system while tons better than Battlefront, ultimately has made these games a process of putting up with sub-optimal loadouts, until you progress to a slightly less sub-optimal loadout. I never felt versitile or prepared for most encounters in BF1, no matter what I unlocked. I felt like I had such a narrow window of use ...
It's weird. I haven't backed this game, so I can't speak to how backers feel given that successive updates are feeling hollow. But I do enjoy watching the development of this game and find the ambition of the project extremely inspiring.
Context: Day Z is one of my favourite all time games and I've been a supporter of its early access all the way through. 4 years on and it's still waiting for that big beta update that brings the full fat gameplay infusio...
White males didn't get where they are purely based on skill. They had advantages. If you're disadvantaged it doesn't mean you don't possess the right skills is just means you don't have access to the same opportunities because systems were put in place by people who were originally advantaged to keep power (because having power is nice). This kind of 'just prove yourself' attitude demonstrates exactly why initiatives to help people get into certain industries are i...
Honestly, I've loved every bit of Mankind Divided. I'm on the final mission. It's a good successor to the gameplay and story of Human Revolution and the level of detail and atmosphere is absorbing. Yeah, it doesn't feel as ambitious as HR or the original game. But I admire the developers commitment to a tight, more focused narrative and environment, allowing them to dial up the granularity of each area. The world begs to be explored. At times, the sheer detail of each area, bu...
I just got a RTX 2080 and in 1440p it runs RTX medium, everything at ultra locked to 60fps (I have a 60hz monitor). Considering I'm CPU bound, stock clocks, and using an external GPU with an Alienware laptop (-10%) that's pretty impressive.
Also, I have to say it's the most graphically impressive game I've seen, everything combined. Even without RTX. But it definitely makes it feel special.
Is it worth the cost? I don't know. Selling ...
