I can see where you are coming from with the unsigned code and custom firmware but these hackers have had dev units for years and still have not had the ability to create custom firmware.
So the likely hood that using this to put the Retail PS3 into debug mode and apply as custom firmware is probably very unlikely. All it will allow will be someone to create a few applications using the API given to them by the SDK.

ID Tech is very good but they have always lacked in the last few years of any gameplay. You cant just have sparkly graphics with nothing else.

I use twonky on my QNAP TS-410 to stream movies and it works flawlessly. If i get an mkv file i just convert it using mkv2vob (FREE) which takes around 5 or 10 mins even on a 5gb blueray movie. It only enlarges the file by about 200mb.
There is no need to have any streaming software. Just get a 1tb external drive and put all you movies on that.

Every single TV company is integrating 3D into there new TV's. Within 2 to 3 years every tv you buy from the shops will be able to do 3D.
3D is here to stay weather they like it or not. It is a stepping stone to have glassless 3D tv's in 10 years time. Just like how remote controls, teletext all became standard within tv's. You know what i mean.

Both bluray and dvd can stream information direct from disc.
You right in DVD can stream more information from disc at a higher speed but at certain point from the dvd. Blue Ray reads discs at a constant rate where as DVD's have a variable read speed from center to edge.
