Another insanely successful year. This is why we're seeing so many companies get into the gaming space. Just look at how well it's performing during this recession.
That is pretty insane actually. $60 million? On only hardware? Only in the US? I could imagine what that number looks like with all of the other regions like Canada (yay), Europe, Japan, Australia, etc...
The thing about Gaming is that whether times are down or not, people still want something to do. During The Great Depression the entertainment industry did well. People want a way to take their mind off of stuff. Back then it was Radio, now it's Games. While things might slow down, I don't think it's going to grind to a halt like some believe.
A game based on Gladiator would be awesome if it was done right. There haven't been too many good Gladiatoral type games to come out anywhere really.
I'm not sure Disney buying EA is such a good idea. There are tons of properties that EA has that are direct competitors to Disney's own properties. I'd think maybe Take 2 would be a better buy.
Well, their model of a new game a year has been working just fine for them o far. I don't think they'll be changing that any time soon.
If you ask me, Disney is huge enough as it is. They don't need EA. If they want to add stuff to their interactive division a better fit would be Take 2.
You know, Killzone 2 is looking like it's doing some cool things with multiplayer. But I honestly don't care about that. I've never been into big multiplayer shooters. If Killzone 2 has a really good single player campaign then I'll check it out, otherwise it and Resistance 2 aren't the games for me.
I'd love to say I agree with Denis Dyack on Too Human. The problem is, I just can't. It's not a terrible game, but it's got issues. Also there really isn't anything that innovative in there at all. The setting is pretty cool, but that's about it.
I like the trends of simplified controls and no HUDs. I like how easy it is to get into games and not have all the "gamey" things like health bars, bullet counters, radars, etc clogging up the screen. It makes for more cinematic experiences IMO.
Ask Sega how good the console business is. It's not gonna happen.
This is true for most business. I think the biggest key is having ambition and knowing the right people.
Looks like I'm going to be busy for the next hour. If it's not that long, I'll just replay it. I've been looking forward to this.
This is Sparta!!!
I think it's pretty clear that Dead Space is going to turn into a running franchise. It's great to see EA going out of their way to try to turn their previous reputation of being simply a sequel publisher. If they can continue to bring out nice new IPs like this on a regular basis they'll definately shake that rep. As for the game itself, I've never been much for horror games. It's never a genre I'd gotten into. I don't think this one's going to change that, but I can definately respect ...
I'm one of those "been there, done that" gamers. I'm sorry, but I'm sick and tired of shooters nowadays. There's so little innovation, and unless you're really going to do something different, don't waste my time or money. Fracture's doing a little something different here with terrain deformation, so that's cool. But that doesn't mean the story should be put on the backburner. Some of my favorite games are my favorites because of the storytelling.
I'd have to say I'd enjoy having in Rock Band is Iced Earth's Cover of Bad Company's Shooting Star. Since the original song is in RB2 already, it'd be cool to see how they re-chart it.
Indeed. If a game is made specifically to throw out a message something is going to suffer. There seems to be a balancing point between fun gameplay and the underlying message that just hasn't been found yet. I think the closest I've seen so far is Braid.
Sounds as if EA has improved a lot since last year. That seems to be the trend for EA's 09 line. I'm hearing that both Madden and NHL are both solid. So hopefully Live is just as good.
The way that I see it, games like Halo 3, CoD, Gears, etc are not at all hardcore games. The people that play these sorts of games are really varied. Some play them professionally even. The hardcore gamer, the REAL Hardcore Gamer doesn't stick to what's popular, they'll go find the games they like and stick with those. This is why the Persona series is still around. Same goes for Street Fighter IV, that game is not being marketed to everyone, it's specifically targeted at the hardcore. ...
