Is so that they can run MMOs that people have to subscribe to separately. It's much more attractive for a MMO maker to bring their game to a console if they know that console players don't have to pay a subscription fee just to play online at all. Sony will offer a subscription service loaded with features, and probably discounted access to MMOs, but people are less likely to subscribe to an MMO if they already have to pay for access to the internet on their console. More than likely,...

Engines can always be easily improved and adapted. As a matter of fact, FFXIII is a perfect example of how a gameplay engine can be adapted. Take a look at the actual gameplay when you're roaming, and then take a look at the game-engine cutscenes (not to be confused with FMV cutscenes). The game engine cutscenes are almost as good as the FMV's at times, yet the in-game graphics during battle and roaming aren't nearly as good as those. Indeed, the game-engine cut scenes were pre-rendered and p...

I'm no fan of the 360, but what purpose do you have for pointing that out other than some lame attempt to suggest that the PS3 version is doing something that the 360 version isn't apparently capable of? The difference is obviously due to a variation in what occurred during the gameplay, not anything to do with a special effect.

Regardless, both versions of this game look like total crap, and clearly aren't using either systems hardware to a fraction of what they're capable of. G...

Um, the game is just about the console war. It's a big analogy for the console war, and the title of the article is just to indicate that beating the game will bring about the end of the war being waged in the game, and therefore symbolically an end to the console war. If you guys would read articles, you would know that it says nothing about an actual end to the console war.

Being widely distributed and being iconic. Nintendo is the most iconic videogame company, and one with a longer and richer history than any other company in the business. I have never owned a Nintendo, it's always been Genesis, PS1, PS2, PS3... still if we played word associations, if you said video game to me, I'd say Nintendo. PS2 may have sold more than any one system, but all Nintendo systems sales outnumber all sony systems sales throughout time (handhelds play a huge part in that). Nint...

The people who are talking down this games graphics aren't talking to the people who care about gameplay, they're talking to the Xbox fans who said that this game was going to have the best graphics on a console. Many of the people who said this are now denying they ever said it, but they said it time and again, and they said that it would specifically be better than uncharted 2. Even when the only shots of the game we saw were the doctored shots, that wasn't true, but clearly these people ha...

for seeing where I'm coming from. I also want to add, that if you can agree with that, in a way you can see where cyborg is coming from. I think he lashed out because console gamers get tired of PC gamers gloating about how much better it is for them. You don't bring a horse to a dog race. It's called a console war and not a videogaming war for a reason, PC will always beat consoles.

That said, I see where PC gamers are coming from when they do get into fights with console gamers...

I said you fail because you were naive enough to try to get in a fight with PC gamers about which platform has better games. You even went so far as to suggest that "there aren't that many must have PC exclusives out there so you fail," and even call it "anemic," when in fact, there aren't that many exclusives for any platform. I said you fail, because you said PC failed; your words, not mine. Exclusives are rare, it's part of what makes them exclusives. I can easily name,...

I don't own a PC gaming rig right now, but at least I'm enough of a gamer to know that PC games consistently out perform consoles and PCs always have an extensive line of exclusives, those exclusives just don't get hyped as much because the PC market is better informed and so they don't need TV advertisement. If you're not dying to play Star Craft 2, Civ 5 or Diablo 3, regardless of whether or not you have a PC or console, you aren't really much of a gamer. Gamer's like games, not platforms, ...

Microsoft could easily have implemented bluray. Sony, in fact, could not deny microsoft access to bluray. A: other companies have invested in the tech, and they could freely sell it MS. B: As blu-ray is a media standard, Sony cannot deny MS the right to access it, if MS wanted to buy Bluray drives from Sony, Sony couldn't stop them from buying without getting into a lawsuit that MS would win.

The same is true for MS, MS could not deny Sony the right to publish a game for windows....

1. Seeing as how the glow sphere is what makes it so precise, it's not only great, it's freaking ingenious. Also, that the color can change on the fly adds an interesting new level of feedback. Apparently this guy couldn't take his eye off of it, but I'm sure that it's not ridiculously blinding, so it shouldn't be a problem.

2. The article which he links to as proof that you can't have more than 3 players actually says:

"Does this mean that four players can't en...

Saying, rather mildly, that one games graphics "surpass" another games graphics isn't a slam. Saying Halo's story is BS, especially coming from an author, now that's a slam. Saying that one game looks a little better than another, that's just putting out an opinion.

5791d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

That's not really a slam. Saying Killzone 2's graphics surpass Halo 3 wouldn't be a slam either. It would be a statement of fact. I'm skeptical of his claim, as I'm a huge KZ2 fan, but that's not a slam, and not even really a dis. Either it's a fact or it's promotional jargon, but he didn't say that KZ2 graphics were bad, he just said his games graphics are better. I don't have a problem believing him either, since Crysis 2 will be coming out nearly 2 years after KZ2, so the graphics should b...

Those screens are from any early demonstration of the engine and were produced for a video that demonstrated destructibility, AI and cover systems. You know as well as I do that 90% of full budget console FPSs look a thousand times better than that this gen, so that certainly isn't anything Crytek would put out and hang their hat on. You must know that, you played the first one I'm assuming. Rest assured, this game will look better than the first one on PC, and it be the closest damn thing to...

You really only need 1 button to toggle through 4 modes.

I know pandamobile and his crew are going to bubble rape me just for suggesting this (though there's no reason to do that), but have you stopped to consider that this decision might actually have nothing to do with the controller at all. It's not unusual that things change from the first game to a sequel, and there are 4 modes, they're just layered, so it's really not all that different. If you wanted to complain about some...

He ends his opening sentence with the suggestion that there are only two types of people, those considering buying a PS3, and those regretting it. That's sign enough that this guy had an opinion about home before he even had a PS3. Also, Home's been out for a while now, it's a little late in the game for reviews.

The score is way above the average, it's that none of the individual category scores are even at, let alone above, the average. I don't have a problem with the game getting a 9.3, but that's just really weird. I don't know if I can take IGN seriously at all after this.

If gameplay was a 9.3 and everything else was a 5, and they still gave it a 9.3, maybe I could see where they were going, but nothing is even listed as 9.3. I can see that maybe they wanted to make a point about th...

That always means they have the exclusive scoop on a story, everyone should know that. If it was gonna be a PS exclusive, then it would have said PS3 Exclusive, of Exclusive PS3 Game, but not World-exclusive. What's particularly lame about this though is that everyone already knew this game was coming out.

Can't be true or is a huge surprise. It's about time that Valve started doing some in house development for the PS3, and it should be welcomed by all gamers. Sure, Gabe Newell said some screwed up things early on, but that's only because he felt butt hurt that his games were getting trash talked by the media for a bad port, and because his studio was being called lazy and dumb because they couldn't figure out how to develop for the system. He reacted defensively, as I'm sure he has a lot of d...
