Ryse biggest problem is that it was a launch game, meaning they had a time limit to crunch everything together before release.
Its why you see so many repetitive enemies and occasional bugs throughout the game.
The positive side of being a launch game is that the competition is low, giving the developer a fairer shot at good sales.
Essentially your able to break in a new IP with better success.

Yeah, the game is gorgeous and the monsters look like real monsters.
I have been keeping up with this game, I'm shocked from the 4 hunter squad unveiling. As in every interview up the the release of this video, the team was adamant about a 3 hunter squad.
Citing that 3v1 is a more intense experience and it was more difficult for the person controlling the monster to keep track of the 4th hunter. Mechanically, 4v1 was not working.

I'm almost sure that Eight Days won't ever see the light of day, if you want to bet on a known name bet on Syphon Filter, as SCE Bend Studio was behind those titles.
Seeing as this generation Sony is all about new IP's, it could be something new.
Even with no great expectations, they covered themselves by making Destiny multiplatform and showing off how good it looks on next generation platforms at the Sony's E3 conference last year.
