Good open world games are good... It's just the standard has been lifted. I played the first Watch Dogs a few days ago... and it's complete garbage. Being open world doesn't help it's cause at all.
Then there's games like Far Cry 4 which actually has decent world, and the content is entertaining enough. But in order to be a truly great open world game, you need to either remove filler quests, or have context for each and every one (Like The Witcher 3.)

Some people bring up games like Tearaway and Ratchet & Clank, but they aren't quite the same. You only need to play something like Jak 1 (Which is still fantastic) to know what we mean. Nintendo still does it with Mario, but I don't recall many, if any good 3D platformers on PS3 or 360.
Well it depends on the size of the worlds, and how big they get once expanded. It might be enough variety. But I guess it isn't being sold at full price, so maybe not.
Ratchet & Clank isn't what you'd entirely call a 3D platformer, it's equally combat based. When we say 3D platformers, we mean in the vein of Jak 1, Banjo, Mario 64 (Maybe Spyro?) So we mean open collectable based platformers.
Tell me why it earns game of the year by such a big margin, then? Just about every aspect of Uncharted 4 was outdone, but go on.

The Last Guardian was delayed because they took ages to figure out how to develop the game on PS3... only to eventually figure out they couldn't really put the game on PS3 anyway. So they developed it for PS4. Would it not be better if it was announced much later? It's stupid that it was revealed in 2009.

Not every game has to be dark, and Borderlands 1 most certainly wasn't. BL2 has the same tone as BL1, it's just they got better at making the characters, dialogue and story more present.

What are you talking about? It's going to have great combat, which means it's not going to be an RPG. That makes sense right? It's probably going to be like The Division... because that game sucked too. Mass effect 1 is one of the greatest RPGs of all time, proof being how bad the combat was. Deep RPG elements? then how do you explain the good combat?

It was the graphics that won it wasn't it? I agree the story was mediocre, and the game just drags out overall. I got the platinum for 2&3, but I couldn't be bothered replaying it. Not with some of those long, boring platforming sections that only there to show how pretty the game is.

Probably because they had the opportunity to do so, the had an idea and executed it well.
Shadow Fall also messed up the Killzone universe, It'd be difficult to go back to it. Unless they did a reboot.
