All those millions of connections are also handled by these services, as they have been since free online play with PS3. Also a lot of games are Peer to Peer, dedicated servers are paid. Regardless, PSN and Xbox Live hides all of the shit for us we don't want to deal with while also giving us an identity on the platform. If you think they should be giving that for free, on top of free games, you are entitled.
The network infrastructure of those services are much more complex, you're paying the upkeep.

IDK, Destiny 2 has gotten some criticism, and I have seen it at $10, I got it at $13 like 4 months ago, new. So not surprising it'd be free to sell those expansions.

$400 + 200(game pass) + 120(live) = $720. while you $840 with the plan.
