Most of the people who are under the impression that there's a "hate bandwagon" going around for FF13 have most likely NOT played the previous FF games and so do not truly understand why the majority of old FF fans were thoroughly disappointed with FF13.
Of course there are exceptions in both parties but as far as I've noticed, there is a genuine dislike for FF13 due to it's quality and not due to a "hate bandwagon."

Technically, both Altair and Ezio use Desmond's character model. Altair's face was mildly covered so you couldn't see it properly. And Ezio had a beard and long hair to distinguish himself from Desmond.
So who knows who's inside that Altair costume?
