It's part of chapter 5 story. Minor spoiler certain group of people including main character end up on that Caribbean island (not gonna spoil the name) after certain event in chapter 4. It's the shortest chapter but it probably has biggest impact on the story.
I think how it will work is that you will only be able to move stuff from the same console family. Like from PS4 to PS5 or X1 to XSX. On my PS4 version I literally have everything up to purple unlocked and about 70% of gold stuff unlocked so I'd be pretty pissed off if that didn't carry over to PS5 but knowing EA they will most likely make it as hard as possible for Respawn to implement cross progression in Apex Legends because you know damn sure they want you to buy all that stuff al...
