You can't really buy a PS3 for $499 anymore. The 20gb model has been discontinued so now the PS3 is only available from retailers for $599. I'll just take the benefit of the doubt and assume you're being sarcastic.
Remember, just because your average consumer doesn't think the PS3 is a "steal" for $600, that doesn't mean that their stupid or that your smater than them. For all the things the PS3 does it may be a good value, but the average person probably won't care ...
Actually, the PS3 is currently at around 900k units sold in Japan. Maybe the PS3 is selling alright when you take the price into account, but in comparison to the Wii's performance it's doing really bad. At the moment the PS3 is selling under 10k each week while the Wii is selling around 50k units. Also the Wii has sold around 2.5 million consoles since it launched in Japan compared to the PS3's 900k. Both are doing much better than the 360 though, which sells around 2k a week.
The USA is not anti-Sony. The USA is just anti-$600 for a video games console. If the USA hated Sony then they wouldn't be buying so many PS2s and PSPs.

uberwleiss, you should travel around the country informing all the people how inexpensive the PS3 really is. Apparently not very many people are smart enough to figure out that paying $600 for a games console is actually a good deal. $600 for the PS3 is a steal! The problem is that your average joe hasn't figured that out yet. You should enlighten them to the truth. I would myself but I'm too busy playing games right now and I'm not really a big fan of movies.
You heard it here first people. The week Forza 2 goes on sale in the land of the rising sun history will be made because the Xbox 360 will actually outsell the PS3 in Japan for the first time. You may be right, but let me explain the difference between Haze and DMC 4. People won't buy a PS3 just to play Haze a few months in advance. There are a lot of people that would have purchased a PS3 for DMC 4, but now that it's available on the 360 people can save themselves $200. The same would apply for MGS 4 and FFXIII. I loved SMBM on the Gamecube. That game was so fricken awesome. It makes me wish I owned a Wii or am at least able to get one by the time SMBB and Super Mario Galaxy come out.
