Absolutely agree! After talking with Pencil Test I couldn't believe how many memories came screaming back. We'll have the audio podcast going up this week where they talked about the Cool Spot arcade machine (which I didn't even know existed) as well as the Neverhood air hockey game from Japan.

This is why we love interviewing these 90's developers so much as they are able to bring so much context, and so many connections, to video game history.

I think both men have their respective places in this industry's lore but for entirely different reasons.

Mark Cerny is absolutely awesome and an undeniable genius. He joined Atari at 18 years of age (four years after Bushnell was squeezed out by Warner) and went on to Sega of Japan (and US) to work on titles like Sonic the Hedgehog. No doubt the Cerny will be lauded for years to come both inside and outside gaming development.

Again, Bushnell is a bus...

Wait, why is it an insult? Without his ability to generate revenue and build the business leveraging large companies like Sears and Nutting there's a high probability that gaming wouldn't exist like it does today.

Programmers are certainly artists, but artists generally don't have the business savvy of a Steve Jobs, Trip Hawkins or Nolan Bushnell.

He took a chance on technology that payed massive dividends and begat companies like Activision, E...

There is no doubt he is out of touch with the games industry of today as it is a far cry from the wild west of the 1970's. At his core, Nolan is an entrepreneur and he's always looking for innovation and 'gaps' (which he actually mentions in the interview).

After talking with him, I do believe he is often mis-quoted and many gaming media outlets as try to shoehorn his observations into bias or fanboyism. For example, last week's "Microsoft will w...

Well, there is some conjecture to if it was copied first by Al Alcorn (Atari) or Ralph Baer (Magnavox) in the 70's, but the idea for Pong pre-dates both men by more than 20 years. He did, however, pioneer the mass market, cartridge based home console business.

We had seen a bunch of news surrounding him prior to having him on the show and were worried about the same thing. Turns out he's completely down to earth and helped clarify his recent comments/quotes about the console industry.

He's a big proponent about spending money and innovating and berates companies like Apple/Nintendo for SKU proliferation and sitting on their hands a top a pile of cash. If you had time to listen to the show and let us know if you feel the ...

I'm not foolish enough to think that Trip would have the same impact at EA that Steve Jobs had at Apple, but it might bring their credibility and perception of 'worst company in America' back around.

EA makes a great hockey game and publishes some pretty exceptional properties like Mirror's Edge, Battlefield, Shadows of the Damned an more. They just need to get back to promoting developers and game makers as their "reason for being" and start givi...

I absolutely agree. As for his most recent company, Digital Chocolate, he stepped down as CEO last year and is actively consulting in the games sector so he'd absolutely be available for the gig.

The 3DO was waaaaaaay ahead of it's time and is very similar to the marketing/development platform the original Xbox launched with. The idea was make it affordable for the developers to make the games and you'll have both sides flocking to the system to make, or purchas...

We talked about that with Trip Hawkins on our show last year. The reason why those systems were so darned expensive was that to entice game publishers, 3DO would only charge a $3 royalty rate per game. Sega and Nintendo, were charging $20. Because 3DO wasn't collecting royalties on each game, they had to make a profit on the hardware itself.

I picked up my 3DO (FZ-1) and Fifa Soccer, Samurai Showdown and Star Control 2 from Incredible Universe all for $629.97 which i...

I have to agree with MultiConsoleGamer here. I'm ex-Game Crazy so I know a thing or two about how mis-management can lead to massive terminations. Machinima can have a grievance with GameStop and could have always chosen to call them out earlier for their tactics (which they may have).

However, choosing to Mother-F out a company at this point is like a street punk taking a shot at a guy who is already KO-ed on the sidewalk. It just makes you look weak and gross.

Thanks for listening! Regarding swear words, if we took the time to edit out all the low-brow stuff, we'd post one show every six months...and we wouldn't have a very good show (IMHO).

As for podcast services on iPhone, you can use Apple's own podcast app (which currently isn't that great), Downcast (which is $1.99 in the iTunes store) or you can download the Stitcher app for free and listen anytime. You can also listen to the show straight from Mevio.com if...

That's a great list and covers a great deal of the games in 2012 and thanks for sharing!

Personally, I'm really enjoying both DOA 5 and Tekken Tag for different reasons and both Namco and Tecmo have done great job with opening up DLC to users right out of the gate (for free). Borderlands 2 has been a blast and, from the people on our show that have played it, I'm hearing RE6 has been fun as well.

Bottom line, we're still not out of this stor...

This year is absolutely madness in terms of AAA titles. We're definitely going to be hard pressed to pick winners in each category this year.

That said, what an incredible year it is to be a gamer! So many exceptional titles across to many different categories. From FPS to art house titles, 2012 is definitely one for the record books.

Before we're downvoted to Dunwall for shameless self promotion, our website doesn't get any advertising or click revenue. We just wanted to share our review of the game with the N4G community.

When we first heard about this game, none of us were really that interested, but after the videos that came out a few weeks back (see below) that showed how dark the city was, we all buckled down and gave this game a go. Now it just might be up for our game of the year.

@thorstien, I had one of those FAST LOAD carts which made load times on games far more bearable. As for connecting to compuserve BBS boards using my 300 BAUD modem...waiting for those boards to load up was like waiting for a prison term to end.

@skate-AK That's an excellent question. I know it was a unit that described data transmission speeds, but I never knew what the acronym meant. Turns out it was just the name of the French inventor that defined the unit (J. M. E....

@DragonAirFight Definitely listen to the show and hear him out. It's only 20 minutes, but he reveals a great deal about where his thoughts, and that statement, comes from.

@Niveous Thank you so much for listening to the show and for hearing him out. I think what is funny is that he's often chastised for his opinions by the gaming press but he did graduate Harvard (Magna Cum Laude) and then started up EA and 3DO.

No matter what people will say abou...

@DragonAirFight I completely hear you with the 'sour grapes' comments. There have been a lot of crappy people in the industry that have bashed the business that gave them a name in the first place. I can see these publishers/developers bashing the games media, but to say the "industry is garbage" because the industry outgrew the needs of the publisher/developer is, to your point, childish name calling.

Now, after interviewing Trip, he didn't say that...

It amazes me the amount of effort that the Minecraft community has put forth on these builds. From Lannisport to the starship Enterprise, the passion and craft of the community is absolutely stunning.
