This downtime is groundwork for the next firmware update 3.50 where Sony is going to disable the USB ports so psjailbreak is useless, and to deflect the outrage and anger they will give us cross game chat
Ok Microsoft may not need to respond at the moment, but when Sony finally get around to implementing their version of Party Chat ( it cant be that far away if it was mentioned in the orginal press release for PS+) and extra features like auto sync trophies etc THEN Microsoft will have to step up their game...
This year though please Sony, weve only been waiting since 2006...

I agree with your comment, but lets be realistic here. Sony are a business and they need Plus to succeed longterm. Offering features like XGC is the only way people will keep paying the sub fees.
The days of "free" features via regular firmware updates are gone for your regular PS3 gamer. Well, the sought after features anyway, I know it sucks, but its pretty much how its gonna be.
Playstation Plus needs features. It's pure and simple, include cross game chat , auto sync trophies and Sony can watch the subscription rate rocket to the moon. Giving discounts to old games isn't going to win over people. Features will.
Firmware 4.0 announcement please which will include voice messaging, cross game party chat, & auto sync trophies.
In all seriousness, it is possible 4.0 will be detailed as it was at the same event last year they announced 3.0

I also spoke to MusterBuster (real name Michael) at the Beta Rooms event yesterday in Birmingham and asked him why we have yet to have features like XGC and auto sync trophies. He could not give me a direct answer and all he could say was sony are "considering" the feature. He said that Sony are aware of the amount of gamers who want it, he even said he cannot wait for it. I predict OS 4.0 annoucement - key features being re-designed XMB and more social features like cross game chat and voice messaging. Also auto sync trophies and a few other highly requested features as per the blog.share website.
Sony annouced OS 3.0 at Gamescom last year, so annoucement of OS 4.0 this year, is highly possible...

I was a day one subscriber to the service, and firmly believe that over time the positives will outweigh the negatives. I must admit I didn't get any value out of the first month game wise, as I already have LBP (in from UK) and wipeout HD etc, but the background patch feature is very useful.
I must say though Sony really needs to bring the cross voice chat feature asap to the service, as I believe that would tip the scales. On my friends list only 4 friends have plus out of arou...
Sony are making good progress with recent updates and as the article proves, they are listening to their community. After Sony implement the below, i will be a very happy ps3 owner.
1. XGC (I know its not everyones priority but it the 1# requested feature)
2. Auto sync trophies.
3. Allow me to remain signed in, whilst im watching bluray movies or playing ps2 games.
PSN+ has been confirmed for europe too for tomorrow ( we get a free digital copy of LBP instead of your extra 3 month subscription) but what i dont understand is why are sony keeping quiet about the details with regard to the firmware update? Normally they release details on their blog sites prior to releasing.
I thought we needed firmware 3.40 prior to subscrbing to PSN+ ? Im based in the UK, and so far not a word about it on the Playstation Blog. Surely it would of been annouced by now if it was coming tomorrow????

Just because its not coming as a feature for Playstation Plus, does'nt mean it isnt coming. For all we know it could well be a free feature coming the firmware 3.40 update next Tuesday....
No one has seemed to comment on that if you go to playstationplus section of the official playstation site, it cleary states in order to subscribe to PSNplus you need to be running fw 3.40... firmware update due between now and 29th june.
The PS3 wifi is not terrible nor cause lag. That statement, along with Microsofts TERRIBLE press conferance is, well, crap.

Seems a good weeks offerings. Im Looking forward to leaving the work office and getting home to download the Vanquish demo and this months Playstation Plus freebies :)
