From comments already I'm not sure people are truly reading the article. The author is stating that the attitude of gamers of what a game is actually worth has plummeted. This is undeniably true. Especially true when it comes to independent games that quite often can't even break even because gamers wait to get it for free on a sub service.

I think everyone loves getting games on the cheap but I have to agree that the model isn't necessarily sustainable. I want to see great games continue to be made, especially great indie ones (Life is Strange anyone?), but without an income these small devs are in tough to break the "I'll get it free/cheap later" mentality.
The huge rise in Kickstarter games probably has a lot to do with this pricing model too. At least there's an outlet for these smalle...
Very valid point. They get a jump start but everyone else gets the advance of cheaper tech and better tech a few years down the road. Sad fact is the Big N has put themselves in a very precarious position since launching the Wii U. I'd hate to see them fail though so I'm pulling for them no matter what they do!
