many believe this was to enable the company to take bigger risks in other areas. at the beginning of every console gen hardware is sold at a loss. software and services are typically what make up for until the integral parts are cheaper.

the console prices are not yet set in stone. i would imagine nvidia to introduce another expensive card.
this however does create the opportunity for them to also cut the prices of their RTX cards.
closing the price to power gap with the next gen consoles. should a delay ever happen to the next gen, that could edge the pc gaming market even closer to the next consoles.

aside from the marketing sony did for it on it's first 2 years of development.

@ FishTank

Sony has the largest stake in the company. Microsoft has a couple games.
NetherRealm's entire list of games also consists of Epic partnerships.
so long as these top performing companies make yearly partnerships, Epic will continue to expand.

and the consoles aren't developed until AMD says so.

i'm actually most interested on how much price to performance they're able to achieve with with it's cost effective design. and hardware effective design as well. it's still being quoted as their most powerful configuration yet built.
of course given that it's named "Series X" there will also be other configurations as well.

"phone" versus a $1,000 "smart phone"....
being able to play angry birds in XHD on a phone is definitely a necessity.......right.

the game that inspired many shooters. love Re4 or hate Re4 it became the industry standard.
I definitely would pick up the remake. but i'm expecting it to play like most 3rd person games.

they're all dev kits. made at different points in time.
dev kits can also be made with specific tasks. doesn't change their function.
they're designed to access, deploy, program, or test.

"grew up with comics, huge fan … that said"

"seriously no one thinks this Thor looks like some old Skyrim armor from 2011 ????"

the trailer says 4 seconds in - "Outfit Inspired by Thor #50 1998."
if you grew up reading the comics you would have recognized it.

@ tech "there isn't a feature that couldn't be replicated on any popular engine these days.
It's the teams that matters more."

this. exactly. Kojima's decision for the engine was just to work closer with the platform.
but the features can be seen elsewhere as of years ago.
UE4, Unity and CryEngine each display wonderful content on parallel to each other.

UE4

that's only if they aim for latest and greatest hardware.
if they aim for mid range spec it will be far less than that.

"Third Person Cutscenes Removed from Cyberpunk 2077"

this is indeed very big news. especially for gamers that intended on gloating their custom characters.
it's very upsetting that features are being removed from this.

the consoles costs will likely be cheaper. though not everything is set in stone.
the road map for PC hardware remains a very interesting one. Nvidia's next line up of hardware is speculated to make ray-tracing performance more favorable. so likely we see consoles have the tech in little quantity, where as PC will display larger performance gains in newer tech.

"Every game should, hopefully, be 4k 60fps."

doubt it. developers will be making that choice.
however. it would be nice to see developers bring over options to the next gen as well.
