This is hardly the same situation as the Wii. The Wii was a hail mary miracle, as Nintendo simply repackaged a slightly boosted gamecube with motion controls, as a new console, and got incredibly lucky it caught on for a while.
Ya, it did well, and sold well for a period of time. It's also famous for filling most people's closets, attics, and storage spaces as unwanted junk these days too. You couldn't give away a Wii, much less try and sell it for anything ...

It can very easily be true. and likely is. EA has never been a big supporter of Nintendo, and they will surely keep their risks minimal.
