I believe those statistics you have mentioned are based on people that were asked at the Kinect booth from TGS. I wouldn't consider them definitive in terms of the whole of Japan.

The PS3's brightness is 2 high, also the PS3's videos settings are clearly set to limited RGB, whereas the 360's is set to full RGB colour range resulting in clearly more colourful pics for the 360 version, but having said that the shadows and textures are remarkably better on the 360.

My brother works at GameStation. For the PS Move advertising was mandatory obviously, the same with Kinect they had official advertising that was supposed to be put up. But the 360 fanboys that work there decided that wasn't enough, and actually had an arts and crafts day where they made their own posters to advertise it. Saying that 'the pre-orders are high buy now if you want a chance to get Kinect'. When midnight launch came only six people showed up, glorious.
