Not only would I have liked a remake of Mario 64, I really want a CRT filter. The CRTs back then made those games look better, more rounding of the sharp edges w the bleeding. It gave an illusion of more detail. It's all lost in hi-rez, looks more awkard on our screens today. PS1 & N64 games really didnt look as bad on our tvs back then. :\ Both options should be included. This collection feels so half-assed, but the sad thing is I'll still buy it bc I want them in handheld.
@Redgum I primarily game PS4 and Switch, about equally. (Having portability on Switch means I can sneak more gaming time in w 2 little kids!) I played a bit of XB1 on PC earlier in the gen, mostly FH3 & 4 but kind of fell away from it.
...but yea, I'm not opposed to crossplay at all. Get in connection w old friends, family. It doesnt matter so much on bigger titles likes Borderlands 3, but I like the idea of smaller indie studios' multiplayer games getting bigg...
That's also one of the reasons I haven't returned to Borderlands 3 yet. I got a PSVR last Black Friday, started BL2 VR... and wow, does it feel like Borderlands was just made for VR. I had already Platinumed the PS3/Vita and PS4 versions before, but I still felt myself wanting to play BL2 VR more than BL3 just bc of how great it feels in VR.
That's cool. I bought it at launch, but still have barely played it. Not that I didn't like it, but it kept getting pushed further into my backlog. Guess I'll return to it w raytracing, which I assume it would have.
This is huge for me. Been waiting for a good turn-based RPG on PSVR. I bought this back in June, when they first announced it was coming. I tried like 30 mins of it, to know it's already great in its own right. The devs had said classics like Eye of the Beholder were their inspiration. This is really going to be great in VR!
@potatoseal haha, that child/toy comment is gold! ...that's one way to finally get your kid to sleep!
XBox is going to run out of letters by the end of Next Gen.
Yea, RGR, I guess it was the asymmetry of it that was throwing me off from a composition standpoint (and covering more of central part of the artwork), but looking at it further, I do actually like how it lines ups perfectly with the PS4 on top.The size makes more sense now. I didn't tear it apart enough before I spoke. Here...

I'm liking it better now. I'm still not ...
Actually here, I was able to remove it. (roughly) I'm not working w a vector of the logo, so it pixelated when I scaled down. This would look clearer in actuality, but here's my idea using it on the Immortals Fenyx Rising boxart.
The Ubisoft logo is moved up, actually plumb w the top of the age rating now.

Yea sorry, guys! A lot of people don't agree obviously, but this is just one guy's opinion. I guess this is what I had in mind...

I threw this together real quick in PS, moved the Ubisoft logo up a bit and placed it underneath. I chose AC Valhalla for my example, since it didn't already have the upgrade emblem covering. (keep in mind, I didn't pull from a hi-rez imag...
As a big Playstation fan, I have to agree. It looks off aesthetically. Busy. Not nearly as bad as the "Optimized for Series X" logo was, before MS listened to feedback and removed it.
It's not a huge deal though, but maybe PS will listen to feedback as well. Plus, it's only on PS4 game boxes.
Wow, they really Craig'ed this one. :\
"Congratulations, you're doomed!"
Well hey, Planet Coaster is coming to PS4/XB1 soon, I highly recommend you check it out! It's what Frontier made after Atari took over the Rollercoaster Tycoon games, running them into the ground. Planet Coaster is high quality, the true spiritual successor to RC 1-3.
GREAT! At least Rollercoaster 3 was a good game from Frontier, unlike the new RC abominations that Atari is putting out these days. I wouldn't buy the other overpriced RC mobile port that was on Switch, but I'll definitely pick this one up. Assuming it runs well!
- I actually would love the RC Classic, complete package on Switch. I had hoped for something like this for on-the-go play.
I was late to the Dark Souls style game, Lords of the Fallen was my entry - Souls-lite as they say, but I really enjoyed it I thought it had good style, & impressive for a lower budget game early in the gen. Yea, it was pretty easy- perfect for me at the time- except for maybe the "twins" towards the end , but I finished it mostly without issue. (actually read online later there are some way easier techniques for the twins, but I figured everything out myself & took a more d...
This sucks because this was the only one I hadn't played before. I had already sold my Wii by the time it came out. Really enjoyed Galaxy 1, so that's why I was hoping for this one also. :\
Really enjoyed this read. I can relate, with many of the stretches of my life journey as well. Keep fightin' the good fight & writing great articles like this.
Exactly. i got Borderlands 3 at launch, but I then got a PSVR during Black Friday of last year. I already had Plats for the PS3/Vita and also the PS4 versions of Borderlands 2, but I STILL find myself preferring to play Borderlands 2 VR more than Borderlands 3. I'm just waiting for BL3 to go VR! Borderlands just feels like it was made for VR, and you're right, it's really tough to go back.
Yes, there will never be a perfect CRT versions, but there are plenty of CRT filters on the RetroArch emulator which look MUCH more natural, realistic. Nintendo and many of the retro collections (such as the Mega Man Legacy collections) often use inferior, cheap CRT filters. Still, I'd rather use those CRT options used in NES/SNES online games before the standard inclusions. It's how I always play them, even if not perfect.
And yea, I/"we" are getting old!...
