Sad to hear about the indie output - I picked up quite a few good ones (Edith Finch, Valiant Hearts, Soma, Transistor, etc.) I'm pretty happy with the "servings".

EA/GameStop did this with Dead Space 2 (or was it 3???). You could only get this (crappy) SMG like gun, if you pre-ordered. Also, many items for Dragon Age Origins were originally tied to retailers and even RAZR products (thankfully they gave everyone the items free... many years later).
The sound from the blue exhaust (sorry, not a car expert) is pretty cool. Really like the lighting.

If I recall correctly, this is like a Sci-Fi version of games made by piranha bytes. Their games are notoriously buggy and have terrible animations. Graphics and story for their games are decent. I think they worked on RiSEN and that pirate game.
Well not stellar numbers, but enough for them to make more. The lack of technical prowess makes it easy to pump these out by the dozens.
Also, these things have existed since the early flash games era. Still puzzling to me, lol.

I remember struggling for weeks just to get half way through veteran campaign. I made the mistake of also getting the death cards at the same time. BIG MISTAKE. The game hard crashed and wiped my saved. I said F THAT and never went back... I should finish the fight though.

And yeah, the same way Xbox has loyal fans buying their stuff. That's the whole point! And not "no matter the cost". If that was the case, you wouldn't see people giving grief to the Vita and PSP.
Both are getting equal (quality) treatment from the devs - very happy about that.
