That has to be the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard. Why WOULDN't you want to stay ahead of oncomming competitors by making advancements to your engine? why not even improve the existing engine? It's looking and getting worse with every new installment. Engine's so old, hackers always infest the game with their nasty, disgusting crap.

You really need to realize that there are sources of game reviewing sites that either don't finish inspecting every nook and cranny of a game, FINISH THE DAMN GAME (IGN), review the game for what it is instead of labeling it a rip-off of a game that has done it before (CALL OF DUTY), or look at developer's promotional interviews to find out the develpoers intentions while making the game.

I have never finished a Final Fantasy series game (excluding spinoffs) in my life!
And usually when I do get back to them after a long time, I don't even know what to do next.
The closest ive ever came to finishing a FF game was FFX.
That sounds bizzare to me seeing this generation of gamers expecting every game to have some sort of online mode, usually to give them an incentive to purchase it.
Unreal Engine has this strange exaggerated lighting effect on objects, making it look Neonish or metallic. It also makes environment colors seem low res and that has always bothered me about the engine. However, it looks great when making immensely detailed textures and proven with many games so far, gives a sweet gritty look. (Gears, Mass Effect 2, Bulletstorm)
