No, the sub controller can be replaced with a dualshock, if you look at the sub, you can see that all the buttons it has (minus the extra X and O) are on the left side of the dualshock anyway/
you dont NEED a sub controller, you can use the left side of the dualshock as a replacement.

Double EDIT: Why the disagree? It's in the PSN+ page, and it mentions you can invite regular uses that are not on PSN+. why would they need to state that if were totally free?
