yeah, swapping out the PS3's hard drive is totally a "hack" although it doesn't void your warranty and is almost suggested to do so by Sony once your system has reached full capacity.
Sony also 100% allows the installation of any other OS on your system, and still doesn't void your warranty.
Anything that can be done that doesn't void a warranty or is allowed by the manufacturer shouldn't really be called a hack, more of just a modification.

Take a look at the original "BUSTED" screen cap, it has all of the environment and background on the left side, now look at the current 00:47 frame, there is no background to photoshop with it.

From what i hear, the developers that are putting Microsoft in their place like Media Molecule, David Jaffe, Insomniac, thatgamecompany and many others enjoy working with Sony because they give them a lot of freedom to be creative and it really shows.
Each one of them have created or are creating AAA games on the PS3.
SONY still owns the title for the best selling console of all time.
I doubt the xb360 will EVER reach that.
