While I completely agree with you, it is highly unlikely for them to drop the price. They'd rather bail out from console bossiness completely than dropping memory card's price.
It is actually showing how much the "standardized" flash memory devices (SD cards or USB memories) can take advantage of mass-production, regarding the price. Remember Vita's memory cards are dedicated for Vita only, and how many of them are manufactured is probably like one mil...

I think the current situation is the backlash of the optimistic assumptions that WiiU was supposed to steamroll PS360 performance wise in ALL aspects.

Sony has invested A LOT into PSP. They still have to make more money from it, before they are finally done with it.
Sony also knows the schedule of (rather small) Japanese third party devs who are still working on PSP projects. I think Sony isn't really going to start pushing Vita until Q2 of 2013, at the earliest.
