Not usually a fan of these lists but glad to see there's a little natural justice when MW2 gets nominated for PS3 and Xbox360, but not PC.
Anyone who would have nominated that game for the PC would have been shot at dawn.
(DA:Origins to win, please)
A good article and well worth reading, but a question on 'exclusives'.
Would you differentiate between a PC and a Mac when it comes to exclusives? They are and they aren't different formats. They both have their own unique fanbase much akin to console fanboys, but at the end of the day they are both collections of processors (amd/intel), video cards (ati/nvidia), memory and hard drives.
If something is 'PC exclusive' it can also be played on a Mac as macs can use w...
Bioware always do such great voice acting cast lists (at least one of which has to be from the Startrek series it seems).
Up there with C&C series ;)
Fun game with others, less so single-player.
It is a great game, though I do look forward to D3. Afterall, DA:Origins can only hold me for so long really.
Also Torchlight is going to be on sale tomorrow (Sunday) on D2D (UK's version of the site anyway) so it should be cheaper than $20 for anyone who hasn't picked it up.
Yup, the top of the line single GPUs can run it close to 60FPS. Looking forward to seeing what Fermi can do early next year.
And of course, for the financially comfortable, there's always SLI, Crossfire or 2 into 1 cards (295 or the X2 series), for when 60 FPS just isn't enough...
It's true that Crysis does stand apart from other games in terms of system requirements (though it is possible for 30+FPS @ 1080p, but not 60+FPS on current single GPUs according to the article).
The article itself is interesting to see how well current consoles would deal with Crysis 1 (around medium settings, 720p, 15-30fps) but in none of the screen grabs did I see any people, only environment. I wonder how they would cope when the bullets start flying.
Not that ...
+ You can get some reasonable equipment here, the only (so far) tier 8 weapon and a chest to store stuff in (unless you get the PC mod).
- The actual quest here though is so-so, and the new skills/spells don't add much to the game.
Not as if the game is lacking in content anyway, I do wonder how they're going to do '2 years of DLC' without it getting repetitive.
Bioware have made their own proprietary 'Eclipse' engine before, used it for DA:Origins which despite doing well, has sold fewer (so far) copies than Mass Effect.
It translated reasonably ok onto the consoles despite being a PC orientated engine (and game) but the graphics in places look a little out of date.
Wonder if they could have used CryEngine 3 for an action RPG?
Medal of Honor : Modern Warfare?
Medal of Honor : Because-CoD-series-made-so-muc h-money?
Feel free to add your own suggestions ;)
How did they mod everything into MW2? Simple... it's NOT MW2.
It's CoD4. Mods on MW2 aren't allowed, no mod tools were released and there are no dedicated servers on which to play said mods.
As for how they managed to mod CoD4 into Star Wars? There are a lot of good modders out there.
And this is what MW2 misses out on by dropping mods from the PC version...
Want to take bets on which game is being played more a year from now, CoD4 or MW2?
Only at what they've been programmed to do.
Faster at calculating the answer to math problems. Yes.
Faster at figuring out what's for dinner. No.
Not sure how it could be classed as a mistake?
Set the benchmark for computer graphics for the past 3 years almost.
Drove PC graphics hardware sales probably more than any game.
Despite high piracy rates, still made a profit. Without it CryEngine 3 wouldn't be made either. Games that are mistakes rarely get sequels too. Not saying it's perfect, the gameplay isn't to everyone's tastes and it showed cryengine 2 could use some optimisation, but in a world...
"Tianhe, which means "river in the sky", is housed at the National Super Computer Center, Tianjin, and is more than four times faster than the previous top computer in the country. The computer combines 6144 Intel processors with 5120 graphics processing units made by AMD, normally found in computer graphics cards."
...but how well can it run Crysis?
(adds Maxis to the list... even if their games aren't everyone's favourite... oh, and Firaxis)
I think EA may be a little hesitant about porting over another Valve game to the PS3 after what happened with the Orange Box.
They could, but EA don't seem to want to take any risks lately, closing down studios and projects that aren't guaranteed money winners, and L4D2 on the PS3 isn't a guaranteed money winner.
They're not a huge studio, so why not concentrate on a platform they're specialised on? They've made some of the best PC games in existance, so why change something that works for you?
Sure, they also do 360 ports but these are also done by external dev teams and the conversion from PC to 360 is a minor one usually.
Since when is there an obligation for developers to release their games on all formats anyway?
Desktops, no problems.
Notebooks (like the M15x), not so easy.
Mod tools will probably be out just in time for BF:BC2... by which point no one on the PC will care... or still be playing the game.
