except it isn't quite so simple.

the story so far:

2006 the year of the ps3... not
2007 the year of the ps3... not
2008 the year of the ps3... not
2009 the year of the ps3

and thanks to you, now we have:

2010 the year of the ps3

Well, if nothing else, then 2009 will be a year of hopeful optimism.

lol

@ cmrbe

Wrong.

In the last quarter, the 360 made more money for EA than the ps3. In the preceding quarter, the 360 made more than the ps3 and ps2 *combined* for EA.

As far as Activision goes, the latest quarter once again show that the ps3 is trailing the 360 in revenue.

And lastly, Ubisoft reports in its last two quarters that the 360 revenue has been exceeding ps3 revenue by very significant margins.
In fact, for Ubisoft, the 360 is...

It's a logical deduction I made based on the article.

Did you just miss my point completely or what?
lol.

of this article?

Did it provide news? no.
Did it provide insights? no
Did it provide juicy rumours? no

It was just some half-assed blog by someone who doesn't like MS.

Come on N4g.
We need to do better.

well, to be fair, he did quote sales of ps2 and ps3, both of which are down by a very significant margin in comparison to sales of the 360, which has shown a very significant increase in sales.

Maybe the word 'haemorrhaging' was a harsh and unnecessary way to describe the situation, but nevertheless, the numbers support his comment.

:)

"Considering MS appears to be taking a loss on hardware again with the most recent price cut"

hmmm... I think you are wrong about that, dude.
The xbox360 has overall been making consistent profits for two years now.
Word is, the 360 hardware sales are also profitable.

Maybe I am wrong.
Got a link to prove me wrong?

We must also not forget that the 360 business model includes profits on xbl and peripheral sales. (which the ps3...

In the short run:

1. PS3 Consumers benefit because psn is still free
2. PS3 Publishers suffer because they have to foot the bill

In the Long run:

1. PS3 Publishers reduce the quality and quantity of downloadable content
2. PS3 Consumers suffer because they get less and lower quality of everything on psn.

@ myothercar.

Dude. You have COMPLETELY missed the point.

@ps360

The ratio will never be 50/50, as long as there is a sales gap.
But, as the installed base increases for both consoles, the sales gap will have less and less relevance to multiplat sales

Hence, the multiplat sales percentages might get closer and closer, but the gap is still evident, despite the illusion of falling trends.

I guess you need to dig a little and...

well hmmm... let's assume it has been selling on average, 10 million.
( i know, i know.. kinda generous given the poor sales lately)

but anyway.

The ps3 hardware loses approx $50 per unit.
so: $50 x 10 million = $500,000,000

So.. uh... er... yeah. Sony is losing $500,000,000 this year selling perfectly good ps3 units.

WTF?

Please can someone post this on a blog and submit to N4g?
Judging by the article above, i...

Any student of statistics will be able to show you why.

Consider the sales gap.
As the sales gap has remained in the range of 6-10 million difference, we can use an average of 7.5milion sales gap. (the exact number is irrelevant)
Now, this sales gap, while remaining relatively steady, has changed in percentage in relation to skus sold.

1.Consider the 360 at 10 million sold.
The sales gap was about 75% of total 360 skus.

2. Consider the ...

is that ps3 fans were vehemently defending the HHGS while pro PS3 articles were being published.

Well now, looky here... a negative ps3 article.

The result?
Hundreds of comments from ps3 fans telling us how much HHG sux ballz.

Come on kids. Show some objectivity!

what a silly comment you made.

Of course America is not the Universe.
But America is a VERY LARGE part of what happens in the world.

Thus, what happens in America is of GREAT interest to anyone living in the world... if they are economically aware, anyway.

Aaron Greenberg is directly associated with the xbox360.

He knows precisely the cashflows of the business and the expected return on investment.

If he says the ps3 is 'haemorrhaging', then perhaps he has a valid point that we should heed, as he is perfectly positioned to be able to see what is happening objectively on financial terms for both the ps3 and 360.

What is more interesting is the fact that he just pointed out the facts of sony's business model...

well, no.

I struggle to find the point the author is trying to make.
It just seems he's pissed at MS for harping its own success.

Wtf is MS supposed to do?
Talk itself down?
Would that keep him happy?

I am sick of these pointless blogs by disgruntled fanboys-in-disguise.
It's just waffle.

I gotta laugh at Nasim trying to spin yet another poor worldwide ps3 sales performance.

Next time, I am going to bet money on the automatic damage control articles that Nasim posts following a poor npd result.

It is quite predictable.

Nasim, i have to hand it to ya.
You get full marks for SDF persistence.

:)

but lately they have been getting the percantages about right.

In other words, the exact hardware sales are off, but the percentage difference between the ps3 and 360 is about right.

Looks like the 360 wins again this week.

bzzzt! wrong.

the production cost for ps3 is $448.73

If the prodcution cost has been reduced since then, please provide the evidence.

oh wait.
You don't have any.
You are just spreading lies, right?
