I've wasted many hours on both Total Annihilation and Starflight. Both were awesome games with some awesome conceptual stuff. TA game out about a year or more before Starcraft and had vector units rather than sprite-based units like starcraft used, along with proper terrain height as well as ballistics.
Starflight was epic in the scale in which it worked with thousands of systems being rendered in realtime. Even the developers hadn't visited them all. It had a funny ...
I'm hoping they get it right, right out the door, with proper spectactor / shoutcaster mode as along with decreased randomness and exlcusion of fluff as required, or at least make it thus so that it can be tuned - obviously without breaking the game like it can happen in the likes of CoD / CSS

Don't know about you, but Deus Ex 1's soundtrack for me was awesome throughout - Star Control 2 was good too. Loved what they did in the Fallout series.

Thats why the indy scene is so important, to show them big-time publishing nutters out there that you can do something different and not have it be a flop. How about get all them R&B hiphop publishers out who use those stupid mathematical systems that don't work anyways, and just do something new...
