There already is a healthy balance and this is it.

The author makes it sound like game companies struggling to meet financial expectations is something new. If people aren't willing to pay 60 bucks for a game then it shouldn't be priced at 60 and it's budget shouldn't be so large that it's only viable at a price no one wants.

You're the consumer, you're already giving them what money you think they deserve. Feeling bad about not s...

why would you ever compare those two games? they're both FPS games but otherwise completely different.

@Roccetarius

I have been playing MMO's for awhile and they're not dying. The genre is stale and has been since copying WoW became the standard but there's still plenty of interest in MMOs and plenty of studios still making them.

Maybe you just WISH it was dying in which case I'd point out there's a lot of cool stuff on the horizon. Camelot Unchained, Crowfall, Elite: Dangerous, Star Citizen, Pathfinder Online, maybe EQN depending on how th...

You don't know what you're talking about. No ADS in Quake. No ADS in Counter-Strike. Both are highly competitive games that require you to aim.

no it's not. there are plenty of classic FPS games where you do not aim down sights.

Of course it's going to happen. A company as flush with success as Valve is with a stellar IP doesn't just drop it. It's a question of when, not if, which is why all these rumors are stupid. It's not like it's going to sneak up on us. Valve will hype it up as much as the next company when they actually have a product.

Console Diablo 3 and PC Diablo 3 are pretty different. You couldn't make them crossplatform without bringing one in line with the other, which would be a problem because they made those different design decisions to better fit their platform.

Should probably point out it's nothing inherent to Twitch. Something like this could be done anywhere that you can post a link.

An in-engine cutscene is not the same as it looking like that while you're actually playing. They use higher fidelity models and assets specific to cutscenes because they have much more control over what's rendered in a cutscene.

Their servers and dev teams don't run on good times and happy memories. They want you playing it so you will spend money on microtransactions in the game.

So when they're advertising and making marketing hype claims they are 'selling' their game as much as any other game with an advertising budget is.

The last proper HL game came out in 2007. Sure, it's been a long time, but people seem to be forgetting another game by Valve that was in development for 9 years with very little said about it until it was about time for release. This is how Valve works. There's nothing for them to say until it's close to release so they won't say anything.

"I see your point but the 60 dollar game that was unplayable 2-3 months prior is now playable thus making those 60 bucks now worth it."

Not really. If I had wanted to wait 3 months I could've gotten the game for half off.

If you're on PC, you could be playing The Dark Mod. Despite it's name it's a standalone game that is freely available.

Does the author understand that banning is a gameplay mechanic that happens every ranked match? The fact he keeps referencing MMORPGs and says people shouldn't be banning characters at all makes me think he really doesn't know what he's talking about.

They've already said Titan will be a brand new IP.

Running at resolutions other than your monitors default resolution can really hurt the visual quality of a game. Aside from that it's a really basic thing that they are skipping.

@Somebody

The system ram and then integrated video RAM isn't something that is going to change unless there's a much more significant change in hardware first. The reason it's like that in consoles is because they're using an AMD APU rather than a separate processor and video card like PCs use.

AMD will be launching consumer desktop APUs soon so it's possible within a year or two that the hardware landscape could be changing but it's d...

That's not factoring it in. Aside from the fact we're comparing a movie to a game, the lower price point would invite more sales. It kind of highlights how silly this hypothetical is though, ticket sales of a movie and boxes sold of a game just aren't comparable.

If they did a 350% increase with a driver update that means there was something wrong beforehand, not something amazing after the fact.

@WeAreLegion

Books are remembered for their cultural/historical qualities or for the profundity it may have contained. GTAV isn't shaping up to have either of those. It's a great game, but it's just one of many great games that are significant for the short time that they are the best. It will stop being significant once a new GTA game that does everything GTAV did and more releases.
