The $99 PS3 would be a very niche product and would only work for people who completely understand it's digital-only. It might work out, but for the uninformed parents who don't know during the holiday seasons, they might be disappointed if their children try to play an opened game. Also, how would you sell the PS3 for $49 with two years activation when we don't know actual pricing?

U.S. will be up for grabs. I suspect PS4 will barely take it, assuming PS4 doesn't get a bundle or price drop. Remember, Xbone + Kinect+ Titanfall = $450. It still didn't beat PS4. I know that $400 =/= $450, but it's safe to assume that people who buy the kinectless console will buy a game.

I'm not doubting a yearly subscription, what I'm questioning are the price models. It's hard to understand where you can drop the price to $49 without knowing what the price for two years would be. For all we know, PS Now for 24 months could be $240 (ten bucks per month?). See what I mean? :)
