To be completely honest, this seems like genius marketing. Make it so you can stream porn to the PS3 and advertise it by having porn stars pose as game characters. Then to top it off, give something away.
The video is kinda lame but I think it's a good marketing idea nonetheless. It's my approval for that alone.

According to Monolith they're trying to shut down the servers now. Eurogamer wasn't supposed to post their article with the beta codes until the day of the beta's release, which is December 15th.
Also, I got word from Monolith saying that the beta dates Eurogamer were wrong. "The upcoming beta is actually running from December 15th to the 22nd, so any other dates are just plain wrong."
The beta isn't live until the 15th...

I'm a huge Gears fan but I really hope this was the last of the franchise. I loved Gears 3 but I feel like it's a good place to end the series. The last thing you want to do is push a good series over the edge by making too many games (Halo).
