At first glance I thought it almost looked like it was from Fortnite. I guess Double Fine teaming up with SEGA is more likely than Epic.
I think it lifts after release because they know the campaign was garbage and would hurt review scores. The game was obviously all based around the multiplayer which is extremely addicting.
At least, that's how I felt when I played through it. The campaign was so damn bad...
But an indie game release would mean it would have to be an indie game. Since it was developed by LionHead and published by Microsoft, it's FAR from an indie game.
But yes, it certainly isn't the best game in the world.

From what I can tell, the Special Edition is NOW a GameStop exclusive. When the Special Edition was first announced I pre-ordered it from Amazon. I talked to Amazon customer support today asking if I will still receive the Special Edition and they reassured me that I will.

Well, it's a marketing strategy that ended up on the top of N4G numerous times as well as being the center of conversation on several major news sites (even outside of the gaming world). This sure sounds like a genius marking promotion to me.
