Dunno man, My Vita is 9-10 months old. I have 10 Vita games for it.(not PSX classics or PSP games) Though I won't consider that a lot I wouldn't say that there is no games for it though.
I do not know how you define a hardcore gamer though I could tell you that the games I own did satisfy the hardcore gamer in me. ;)

Thank god I am not a huge MH fan. Worst case scenario for me (being a Vita owner) is an exclusive Metal Gear 3ds though.
