The Gamepad wasn't designed for that. The Vita is a handheld, designed to be portable and operate on it's own. The Gamepad was designed to be quite functional, sure, but it's just a controller with a screen, nonetheless, and it's dependent on the console.

I do agree with you. Fans do need to be more aggressive in getting Nintendo to embrace online. But, many games have multiplayer as a main focus, with their 4 hour campaign taking a back seat. Whereas in mario, that isn't the case.

Some 3ds games do have remote play. ones i can think of are Monster Hunter and Sonic Lost World.

actually these are decent points.
Thing is Nintendo doesn't BS like that. Mario Kart Wii, Luigi's Mansion 2, and Brawl ALL have stellar local multiplayer or single player games despite having online functionality.
