Yea, I just need to own up and get a capture card.
I've never liked the argument that "it's a video game". Great stories can be told in games. The fact they chose to abandon preconceived for the sake of making new games is separate from the fact it's a game.
He certainly hits the nail on the head in terms of the motherly instinct, the sexism debate and the gameplay reaction, but he doesn't seem to know any of the Samus backstory, so he unknownly calls Samus an empty shell character. Other M holds true to the supplemental lore of the Metroid fiction. It's just that no one actually knows the lore, so the fan service is for a very small set of people.
I recommend a jog through the Metroid Wikis around town to get a better ...
Ok, I took the time to watch the video and he's right about the gameplay, the sexism debate and the mother issues, but completely wrong about the empty shell characterization.
Samus actually has a rather extensive history to her. Game OverThinker speaks as though he has no idea what the significance of K-2L is, or what happened to Samus when she was three (for a hint, look at the Other M live action trailer. She's three in the shot with Ridley (though the actor look...
I agree with this partially. Remeber though, there's a vast difference between catering to fans with greater knowledge of the narrative and presenting the exact information needed to relay to the player in this stand-alone copy of Other M the importance of the events.
The Ridley event was huge for Samus. One line at the beginning of the game isn't enough to illustrate the importance of him. Seeing a "ghost" in or out of hell isn't enough to scare Samu...
That's fine, but did you read the article here to contrast what is said at Game Over Thinker?
If not then it's not really relevant to this article. I'm all about supporting material, but supporting material is supposed to support, not replace the article for which this post is made.
I think "mainstream" might mean different things to different people. I think the article is defining "mainstream" as widely accepted across the board. iPhone games fit that description better than something like Modern Warfare 2 because more varied people play them. There's a much tighter demographic that plays hardcore games, but tight demographics does not mainstream make.
Thoughts?
I highly doubt that games will be as useful as the internet. There's a vast difference between the opposition to accept advances in technology and the opposition to enjoy a past-time.
I had a multi-page memory card on the PS one when I was playing Final Fantasy 7... I played all the way to the final Sephiroth battle, then it disappeared. I was amazed, but it was my only memory card, so I tried again. Up to the third disc. Save disappeared. I tried one last time. Up to the second disc. Save disappeared.
I wasn't a very smart child.
Maybe with Starcraft 3. Collector's Edition Modular House.
Can't wait to get a box all of my own.
There's a whole other article discussing why games are repressed as art here:

This should answer some questions.
Have you used the 3DS? I have. It won't.
This article just got a mention on rock paper shotgun too. Nice.

Not news, but still entertaining.
Part of it has to do with only having Beatles avatars singing Beatles music. It really isn't a "Rock Band" game per say... It's a Beatles Game by Rock Band.
I've never seen a countdown list before that went 5, 4, 3, 4, 5...
Modesty doesn't get you the millions of loyal fans I assume myself to have.
This show always needs more Boris.
I agree with this completely. I’m actually a writer for a gaming journalism site called GameCrashers.net where we do everything we can to not include numeral values or “grades” to game reviews. We're completely independent, so we get no kickback from any companies. The problem with this is that our reviews cannot be included in aggregate sites like metacritic, so it makes getting our reviews out into the usual mainstreams nearly impossible.
The way that I write my review...
