So if they actually do better 'something' for legacy titles, it will also be optional. AFAIR every PlayStation with backward compatibility enhanced previous titles. Ps2 had texture smoothing for example.

Umm... Ok. But Boost Mode? Isn't this changing CPU frequency for legacy titles without Pro support? It changes the one thing you're saying is unchangable.
