What'll happen is that the ps5, 6 or 7 will be smartphonesized. Or it'll be a smartphone with a focus of gaming.
Not hooked up to the tv it's a phone. With a charger and HDMI it's a playstation (ofc it has the ps controller aswell!)
Iphone and android might get to the same place hardwarewise, but can't compete to the experience, expertise and network that companies like sony and microsoft has about gaming.

the article speaks about creativity and innovation. not graphics, 1080p and 60fps..
Speaking for the ps4 i would say it is "next-gen" (which is stupid, it is current gen really..) even overlooking the increese in power.
It is easy to develop for and has a much lower barrier of entry for new developers.
It has a much improved controller.
It has new downloading features and improved(so they say) downloading speeds.
Also, i am quite sure it has more features that i can't remember right now. In add...
when i can play AAA games developed for this kind of tech i will jizz.
at some point we'll own one multipurpose device for calling, texting, takiing pictures, gaming and so on. Be it 5years or 50years from now. I however think that consoles have atleast 1 or 2 more generations left in them where mobile devices will be struggelig behind.
