MS hasn't been fighting the exclusive software game since mid way through the last generation. Sure they'll have some games that don't appear on the Sony platform but their focus shifted to GamePass a long time ago. As the last few months have proven big games on day 1 move the needle just as well.

Its the main reason for the 1st time in my gaming life I didn't buy the PS5 day 1. I'll pick it up when the console is $300 (Canada) and they have a bunch of games under 50$. Until then my Series X and Gamepass fits my budget!!!!

The only way Sony can keep up is to add other value add entertainment properties into the service. It will be telling whether the PlayStation community embraces non related media.
If Sony tries to go toe to toe with MS they lose for 2 reasons 1- it costs them more because MS own the streaming hardware 2- MS has the money to lose money allot more than Sony does.
