Tell you what how bout we let HBO, or Showtime handle a Castlevania, or Grim Fandango TV series?

Nahhh? Wouldn't work.

Can't say I didn't try.

I think most video game movies are changed way to much to appeal to "the masses" and that makes them seriously lack. I hope this trend changes.

Whoa Whoa Whoa, you both have killer points. No one especially me is saying Halo doesn't sell merchandise, it does sell games, books, figures, lunch boxes, whatever.

But if anyone is going to say that Halo sells stuff anywhere near what Harry Potter or Spider-Man does is delusional. Spider-Man has been around since the early 60's, has stood the test of time, and is stronger than ever. Look at the lines that stood the world over for Potter seven.

Microsoft wants t...

Sorry but no it doesn't go both ways.

You are comparing something that a good deal of people are paying 120 dollars for. (The limited, but readily available helmet edition.) With an 8 dollar movie ticket. That does not seem even remotely in the same ballpark. You are saying just because there are less 360 than movie theaters it balances out, ok then Microsoft should compare number of units sold to number of tickets sold.

Robert makes a good point, and I have been saying this for a long time.

A video game costs a hell of a lot more than a movie ticket. While I take noting away from Halo 3 being the BIGGEST SINGLE DAY SELLING VIDEO GAME EVER, or making enough money to allow Bungie's great-great-great grandchildren to all get manicures for life.

I have always found this stat to be silly, and overused. I hope it sells great, just for video games in general, but to compare it to film,...

As a disgusting Metal Gear fan, I sadly have to agree with Metal Gear Solid 2 being in this list. This game was supposedly the be all, end all of gaming. You couldn't pick up a magazine, or really have a conversation with a gamer with out it coming up. The last two hours of the game made about as much sense as my president does sometimes.

The one that kinda of took me back was Mario Sunshine, I remember Mario being hyped a tad, but not to the extent those games where, plus Mari...

Joy,

I came right out and said that Lair was an out and out turd. I am one of those, I guess, Sony Kids you talk about. But all fan boy crap aside doesn't this in some way bother you? That maybe, just maybe some scores aren't on the level? That a point was awarded here or there for some swag, or exclusive rights to a review? I would have been seriously p**sed off if Lair had gotten a nine, I would have drove to IGN and slapped someone for that. This story is a tad, well unnerving. ...

I eventually see Microsoft bowing out of the eastern market, and just crush down on the western with an iron fist. I just can not see them penetrating this beast without throwing ungodly amounts of cash at it and buying Japanese developers. I mean seriously Blue Dragon was not what Microsoft had hoped it would be, Enchanted Arms? Rigggght. Microsoft has the horses here in the west to really shine.. (Halo, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Fable, Splinter Cell) But as far as far as games like Shin Megami...

SimmoUK,

Your right this article does bring up something scary as, to what influence a company can have on the final score. I would hate to know a game I purchased had a "bumped" score to get the exclusive review.
But alot of people have cried foul and said there was some shady dealings going on with Lair, and the IGN score. And I for one thought the review was brutally honest.
But again I am worried that if more stories like this come out, we could s...

I am a Playstation 3 owner, and fan. And I do not question at all why Lair got such a low score.

IT IS ATROCIOUS, not bad, not semi-bad, not even somewhat good. After I played through the game, and yes, I did play through the game. I at first thought the game was ok, the farther I got in to it, the worse it became. I was so thankful I knew someone at my local Gamestop that would take it back.

The Playstation 3 gets ragged on for the lack of quality games. Warhawk...

Now see I thought 12 was a very good game. A strong step in a different direction. We'll see I hope 13 is stellar.

Ninja Gaiden is a hardcore game.
Devil May Cry 3 is a hardcore game.
Want a Nintendo hardcore game? F-Zero GX.

Games that the public can't just pick up and play. Or they just don't "get".

Thats the way I have always seen hardcore games.

@ Black Magic

Hey I love JRPG's too, and I am glad you purchased Blue Dragon, because I do not want a game by Hironobu Sakaguchi to fail. I also hope it lived up to his previous work, even if reviews say otherwise. I was just stating that MOST 360 fans DO NOT BUY these games. I hope you buy Eternal Sonata too, because I hate it when a good game gets passed by the masses. (cough, Okami, cough)I just can not see Final Fantasy having the impact it would on a Sony Playstation 3.

Hasn't Square denied this rumor like 6 gazillion times? Does anyone actually have proof that Square is thinking of making this?

6721d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Not to pee on the 360 any, but they don't sell squat in Japan, and all the money Microsoft pumped in to getting the Japanese market to make games for the 360 really hasn't shown me anything much either. What is Blue Dragon doing? Do you think Eternal Sonata will be the next big thing? No.

JRPG's and those quirky games, will sell on the PS3, I really can't wait to see the sales figures for Beautiful Katamari, on the 360. I am sure FF13 would make a splash on the 360, I don't thi...

Yea but what happens if Nintendo does sell 50 million of these things? Every 3rd party developer will be shoveling anything they can on the Wii, and we can talk innovation all we want, I can't remember who said it but they were right, all Nintendo has done was replace button mashing with stick waggling.

Don't get me wrong here, I purchased my 12 year old son a Wii, and I liked Metroid and Zelda, but Nintendo does not have enough to hold me, again I am a huge Ratchet Clank, Gra...

Now see I am going to jump in here and latch on with the 360 owners here. As a PS3 owner I want to say that the Wii is a fad and nothing more, I want to say the same thing that they gave us last time, only with a pointy stick, I want to say that it will fade and die off, and Microsoft and Sony can get back to busting each other up, but I am afraid that isn't the case.

Nintendo has now done the same thing in the console market they did for the handheld market. They throw out a h...

I'm not crapping on the 360, you can see that I played a lot of games on my sisters by my gamertag. I am a PS3 owner. But I mean why do you think that Gamestop is only trading 360's in for 150 dollars? This is a problem when you hear about it everywhere. My sister, and her husband had one die really early after launch, the replacement has worked great. I hope if one tears up on anyone the replacement works. I wish they didn't tear up at all. Gamers should never be without their console, espec...

I somewhat like the game... (I am on mission 4) this is not a triple A title. The sound is excellent, the graphics are not bad, but they aren't system busting by any means. The controls (and yes I am used to them) just feel wrong. I felt like I was steering a boat in water, not soaring in the sky. The lock on is spotty, but I have played much worse.... Much much worse. 4.9 is flat mean though, this game deserves a 6.7 - 7.0 it is not a bad game it is just "meh", it is true if this g...

I was making a joke..... You know a funny funny. I don't remember Phil saying that. You never know though, I have heard some wild things outta Sony exec's mouths.

Almost as good as some of the Peter Moore comments... "Y'know, things break" classic.

Get the retail.....

From what I understand and please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, if you download it, other users on the same PS3 can not play the game without playing it on the account it was downloading on. The retail doesn't have this issue.

Plus you get the headset.
And a Blu-ray disk that isn't even 1% full.... That to me is so worth it. :)
