Yes, let's keep making acquisitions so we eventually win something.

Anyway, it's not about the winning. Who cares about winning an industry award? It's about the quality of the games that matters and it's here that xbox clearly excels.

Oh, wait...

My memories are that I've never owned an Xbox console and I don't think I'll be joining the family any time soon.

Good stuff for Xbox owners. It's a fantastic game! Hopefully the extra time in the oven will also allow Larian time to smooth out those performance wrinkles, particularly in act 3. It's really not a smooth experience on PS5.

They brought out 4 main games and 2 spin offs: one on PSP and one on Vita. That's a decent run for any series. I also understand that Shadow Fall wasn't a success commercially despite it coming out at PS4 launch, and as a big Killzone fan even I couldn't get into it, so I think Sony/Guerrilla could see it was time to move on.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love another Killzone game in the vein of KZ2 but it's just not happening. Hell, I'd even take a r...

But there's so many other devices out there that will probably do what they need it to do. Don't get hung up on this one thing. Nobody is being misled here. Sony never said it was anything other than a remote play device for the PS5. It's not a console, it's an accessory and was never advertised as anything more.

I will admit that the lack of Bluetooth is a disappointment, but for me personally, I never use headphones with my steam deck, so I don't expe...

Maybe because it does what it's supposed to do? Too many people are focused on what it can't do, instead of what it can do and was designed to do. In that respect it seems that it does what it's meant to do very well, so why shouldn't it get good reviews? Nothing "shocking" about it.

I'll find out for myself at Christmas. Looking forward to it!

I have no intention of ever using it outside the house, so that's no problem for me. I don't take my steam deck outside the house either, and that can work fully offline.

For the me appeal of the portal is that my ps5 games are no longer tied to the room where my ps5 is.

It does, but that WiFi has to be fast enough

868d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

Exactly. I don't have a game room. I only have the living room, and that's where the ps5 is. When someone else is using the TV I will still be able to use the ps5 if I wish.

Exactly this. If it had some generic control method it wouldn't be appealing and that's why it gives full functionality of a DualSense. This is what I want from the portal. The DualSense is one of the best controllers available and for me this is the major appeal of the portal.

I don't care that is doesn't play games natively, I have my steam deck for that.

My use case is so that I'm not tied to the TV when I want to use my PS5. I have a steam deck and yes with a bit of fiddling it can remote play with the PS5 but I want the controls that the portal offers. Yes the portal only does one thing, but it seems to do that one thing very well indeed.

I agree and disagree. I have a steam deck and I'm getting a portal for Christmas. When it comes to remote play I want to be able to have as close a feel as possible to an actual DualSense. The portal gives me that. It's not meant as a portable console, it's to compliment the PS5 and allow it to be less tied to the TV.

It can also be used outside of the home as long as there's a decent WiFi network available, but I would say that mine will be staying at home....

I just wouldn't buy games if they did that. Imagine a game that takes hundreds of hours to finish, that would mean it would cost hundreds of pounds just to play! No thanks!

Same. I know it's possible to use the deck as a remote play device but where the portal excels is on its control scheme. Basically bolting a DualSense to a screen was a great move imo. Looking forward to mine!

I just need to see if it's possible to get a case for it

Looking forward to this! Roll on Christmas! I just started act 3 on BG3 but I'm holding off on it for now as I want to play through it with the portal

Of course it does. People will lap up any old CoD crap fed to them.

There's a lot more here than raw power though

871d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yes, but it's aiming for the usability and convenience of a console. Come on now let's not split hairs.

That OLED edition. I have the 512gb model steam deck but honestly as soon as I can afford it I'll definitely be getting myself an OLED model too. I agree that the Deck is definitely up there as one of the best handhelds ever.

The only thing I'm apprehensive about is that I buy an OLED deck and then 12 months later Valve launch the deck 2.

I've had 2 Switches - although I did end up selling them both. I'll give credit where it's due, although the selection of games on the Switch wasn't for me on the whole, there can be no denying how good the hardware is. Without it the handheld PC market might not have taken off in the way that it has.
