Who the hell gets to define when a gen ends? I think the whole concept is worthless. The wii could just as well be counted as the most powerful console last gen, but it doesnt. what happens if sony releases a console that is less powerful than the ps3, is that next gen? or of a new company jumps in, who decide which gen they get to start at?
I have great hopes for this operations mode. hopefully a mix of resistance 2 coop and mw2 black ops with that awesome killzone feel to it.

I must disagrre with you ThatsGaming, its probably the casuals that are affraid of the rrod. The "hardcore" are those that are willing to endure the knowlede that their system may break down just to be able to play whatever they want. But i wont formally disagree with you because as you say the slim redesign and superior realiabilit will promises greatness for the 360. this comming from someone who hate the 360(hardware) but love the games on it.
I really like playing nes roms on my ds, wish i could find a real copy of smb 2 that worked in nesds as i recently discovered that the game i thought was the second was a lie! Would be really cool that if you purchased classics on the 3ds you could modify the depth of the sprite layers and create som basic 3d:)

None taken. The point i was trying to make is that it gets equaly complicated if one uses x86 logic when developing on the cell and the other way around. The same team would have equal amounts of trouble porting reach to the ps3 as porting uncharted 2 to the 360. Only reason 360 multiplats require less work is that a lot of devs are still caught in the x86 logic.

I dont get why people dislike these universal reward systems. I love how they give more value to games you really like. Getting all the tropies in uc1/2 is one of the greatest gaming experiences ive ever had. And its great if you meet people on live/psn you can instantly check if you share i similar interest in games. Now if this makes some people buy crappy games to get more, well lets just say that tells me more about them than the reward system.
It probably means that you have not found a game that you really like where all thropies are relativley easy. Personally i dont care for them werry much, but i got 3 onley because i really did enjoy playing those games and the tropies were easy.
The ps3 isnt more complicated, its just different. The 360 uses a processor architecture thats 30 years old, while the ps3 uses one thats about 5 years old. Everyone and their mama knows how to optimize something for x86, thaks to the immersove knowledge that has been accumulated these last 30 years. For the cell no one knew how to do anything when the ps3 was released, and just 4 years later its starting to catch up to x86. If one takes all ths int account one could easily determine which is...
The sad thing is, if it would have worked like that I would have bought it in a heartbeat, because that looks fun. But its never gonna work like that, it is just going to work like a eyetoy, and eyetoy have not given me found childhood memories:(
In the end all companies care soley about profit, and rightfully so. But different companies take different routes to achive this goal. For instance, sony refrain from charging for psn not because they want to be kind, but because they hope the superior reputation this brings will offset the losses they suffer from not charging.

Only because it have worked one way a long time does not mean there is not better ways. Who "wins" is sjubjective, and by all right. Companies care only about profit, but would you calassify the most profitable company as the winner? like say activision? They shure are great/s.
