with the activision deal passing, there can be a few scenarios left. some tittles/publishers will have no choice but to put their games on gamepass due to how much exposure they will get now. this can be a 2 edged sword, where payments can be manipulated to microsofts advantage. if they want the gamepass exposure, they wont have to pay as much which in turn means less to the developers. secondly with more and more games being added, price will have to increase or the quailty will have to drop...
in australia, we passed a legislation that social media outlets that use local news for their platform must pay loyalties to said outlets. was alot of pushback at the start but in the end they all agreed. this was a massive win and a first
if the sale goes through, i think the right play for playstation would be to limit COD sales and focus on their own franchises. it did wonders during the ps3 era. why feed xbox and make them stronger by taking cuts into your business at the same time helping them grow. sometimes short term pain is worth the long term gain. removing almost 50% of the COD player base will be a tough for sony but it will hurt xbox more and it will show that gaming isnt about buying up whole publishers and removi...
If God of war cost 200million to make, how many god of war qaulity games could Xbox have made with just the 3bill they need to pay Activision. 15 high quality games. Only problem is do they know how to or want to based on what happen to halo infinite. 3bill would be enough to have a steady follow of games till the end of this generation
To ur point about square Enix, deals have been made but this does not stop Xbox from approaching square to make other games for them which can also be exclusive to them. With abk and Bethesda, theres jack shit anyone can now do to get their games on another platform as they are solely owned by Xbox unless it's via gamepass. Do U see the difference here.??? One is still open and free to deal with, another is closed off from all competing platforms. Can't believe this needs to be explai...
U don't need to look to far. Just look at halo infinite the flagship of flagship tittles. If that game sold shit house, what makes U think a developer would be confident their game will have a positive return on investment. Games cosy more, take longer to make, and expense increase. Hell even Xbox admits gamepass is effecting their games.
So it's wrong to demand better out put of games. Xbox360 almost won that generation from nothing. But the final years it was all about Kinect to trying to take on the Wii. From there, their output of games has been crap. Final 2 yrs of xbox360 no games. Then the xone came and barely any notable games at launch besides dead rising and Ryse. Where were the games from the last 2 years of the x360 when they weren't releasing jack all. Then again the last few years of the xone, we got Forz...
and from the start how many price increases have we had across each of those streaming services. look at netflix, peanuts when it launched, now $17aud per month. disney plus $79aud for a year. now that its one of the big players it $120per year plus another increase in April.
gamepass is great as an add on but it can not be the be all,end all which one side is aiming for. once they have enough people subbed, they will happily increase pricing as there will be no straight alternative...
i think too many people are looking at xbox alone. as a publisher i would be worried if i had a game that simultaneously released on xbox gamepass and playstation/pc. how many would just play it on gamepass instead of purchasing on another platform. take hogwarts for example. if its sold 5mill copies since launch, how many sales would be cannibalized if it launched day and date on a sub service. reports from UK already showing that 80% of ps gamers purchased it physically. how many copies sol...
He was awfully quiet when all the allegations against sexual harrassment was around. Guess it never benefited him compared to this deal where he will make millions
Last 3 years of the 360 it was all about kinetic. Then with the one, it was how the console wouldn't work without Kinect. How quickly was that removed a year into the xone generation. Then it was about the series s/X and how many great games would be available at launch. U add all the BS up between 3 generations, there's 10 years of nothing. No wonder Devs are prioritising PlayStation when thier user base keeps growing, their 1st party keep pushing to be better and they keep innovatin...
If Xbox games were selling no way would they need to put games day one on gamepass. If on average gears would sell 8million + at $60 a pop, that's almost half a billion dollars in revenue. Just look at god of war. 3 months and it's sold 11million copies (770billion). Not sure how people can't work out why some of the biggest games will never go day and date on any sub service.
or the upside is buy studios so that they can bring back old ips they have sitting around doing nothing. plenty of studios to go around vs 2 publishers. at least with a studio/studios, they can not take the IP with them. i dont think any1 would have an issue if infinity ward or treyarch was bought as they alone can not take COD away. yes the talent pool may shift, but opportunities can come from this as well. could be the kick that sledge hammer or another internal studio to create something ...
Think the Issue with linear/short games is once it's done and dusted people move on. This does not work will for the game pass model as it needs people to continue their subs long after they finish the game. This is were gaas model works with a sub service as the game never ends until support dries up. This is another reason why Sony is going down this route. Main difference is Sony still pumping out amazing single player/linear games
starfield and elders scroll as well.
majority of those studios were bought over a span of 20 years,
in the space on one year with these acquisitions lets see how many studios were taken that were renowned for making 3rd party games on mutliple platforms,
Activision Shanghai Studio in Shanghai, China, founded in 2009.
Beenox in Québec City, Québec, Canada, founded in May 2000, acquired on May 25, 2005.
Demonware in both Dublin, Republic of Ireland and Vancouver, British Columbia, Cana...
one fix i have used is actually dusting and cleaning the heatsink. one my 2nd ps5, it would crash after 30minutes without any warning. worked out that it was due to over heating. just cleaning the fan isnt enough if the buildup of just gets really bad. had to use a fine brush and mini vac to unclog the heatsink. ever since, its never crashed or turned off unless it more software related via a game. hope this helps some people
as someone who has both since launch here in australia, the demand for ps5 far outstrips the xbox series x/s. going off twitter stock updates, ps5 would be lucky to last a minute, where as the series x is still available to purchase after an hour. another easy barometer is demand on the used/scalper market. many second hand retailers are offering more upfront for ps5 vs series x due to demand. even looking at ebay prices here, ps5 is averaging 1050-1100 aud where as the series x is 850-950 au...
for me at least, i know that if i end up going from 1tb to 2tb in the future, i can still use the 1tb as additional storage for my pc or use it as an external drive with a $25 enclosure. as we all know with pc parts as well, they will drop in price as more suppliers come on board with demand.
On twitter which pushsquare was sigthing it's numbers, there was an actual breakdown on units sold. Just the simple loss in sales for Xbox was around 6.3million in revenue. U would need 318k extra gp subs to cover that deficit
