what do you think updates actually are? firmware is a program inserted into hardware to allow it to communicate with the software, but firmware can only be upgraded to an extent due to the hardware, aka the xbox 360 and the HDMI 1.2, after HDMI 1.2 the hardware changed drastically and was unable to be upgraded, on the other hand, HDMI 1.3 (which the ps3 has) is not much different from 1.4, so 1.3 can be upgraded to 1.4 with a firmware update, of course the 1.3 updated to 1.4 wont be 'as&#...
bluray isnt going anywhere anytime soon, bluray is capable of the next gen of high res hd tv (called super hdtv which is available in japan) every month they make an announcement that bluray technology has exceeded and will be capable of an even larger mass of storage with a single firmware update, its not going anywhere
you need 1.4 for 3D through HDMI, 1.3 was able to be updated to 1.4, 1.2 cant be updated, sony definitely planned ahead

the 360 has 1.2 (which cant be updated)
and the ps3 had 1.3 but with a firmware update brought it to 1.4
it has nothing to do with the age of the gpu, or the amount fo RAM it has, its the size of the frame buffer, the ps3 has an overly large frame buffer which now we know why, it can render 3D in 1080P, the 360 cannot, in fact if it were to try and render 3D the picture wouldnt be any higher than 360p (ironic, no?)
and its not rendering the same frame twice, thats fake 3D, real 3D requires 2 frames rendered from 2 slightly different angles, just like our eyes give us the percep...
such a long upgrade could be contributed to a couple things
New servers (most likely because it took about 12 hours to move a few servers when i was doing that sort of thing)
adding a new service to the current one (the paid service?)
system maintenance (not as likely)
or even the full list above, we will find out in 12 hours or at E3, Sony better be making good use of the time because a lot of people are going to be critiqui...

there are some between the legs racing wheels but they are very cheap and designed for kids, but if you have atable (even just build one) that is less than 1.5 inches thick you will be just fine, just make sure it has no bottom part to it so you can use the carpet gripper on the bottom of it

the g27 is one hell of a racing wheel, its got a hell of a lot of weight behind it, just make sure you have something you can attach it to, its not something you put between your legs

I find the ATI drivers much better than they once were, nvidia drivers have gone downhill, i recently tried to build a computer for a friend and he wanted an nvidia card, put it in, but it took about 3.5 hours to get the drivers to work properly without causing BSoDs, the ATI drivers worked wonderfully when i popped in a 5870 from another friends computer, on top of that the controls for fine tuning the ATI are so much simpler
