ill probably enjoy UT3 a bit more, but no one should pre-judge haze just yet.

i think you missed this quote:

"Do not misunderstand me -- I am in no way saying this game looks like a PS2 title"

oh, and this entire paragraph:

"Certainly, Tools of Destruction is a gorgeous game. Ratchet and Clank's first foray onto next-gen hardware has been kind to them... Ratchet is the furriest he's ever been, with individual pieces of hair on his ears and tail visible from certain angles... Some of the environments will make yo...

see post above. i think that the handheld version of SF redeemed the series.

now that i'm thinking about it, the handheld version of wipeout redeemed that series as well. hmmm...

metal gear ac!d2, syphon filter and devil may cry definitely do not belong on the list.

metal gear ac!d2 was a sequel done properly. unfortunately, many people were turned off by the first metal gear ac!d's gameplay. from the writeup about it, it doesnt seem like he liked the first one either. either you appreciate MGA or not. if you appreciated the first game, the second game was a godsend. [my only problem was the use of color was a bit overthetop]

i decided to not buy transformers. i saw the dvd, but it makes no sense to buy the crappy dvd version, when i should buy the version that i can make the most use out of my home theater setup with.

if i can help it, i wont be buying transformers or any other paramount movies at all until they switch to blu-ray, or at least go neutral again.

better yet. if epic can get UT3 running on the ps3 that says alot. the unreal engine is responsible for the most graphically advanced game so far this generation [gears of war]. so if they have UT3 running, that is a step up from gears of war; since the maps are much larger, movement is much, much faster and more players are supported on the screen at once.

the other thing people seem to forget is the fact that MS' numbers cant be trusted. perhaps i'm wrong, but i recall they announced that the xbox360 had sold 10 million consoles by xmas last year. since then they have only sold 2 million consoles worldwide? something doesn't seem right there.

chances are high that they inflated their sales numbers and are slowly allowing actual sales to match up with their previous inflated totals.

i dont think that you can tell w...

one word: preorders.

places have been accepting preorders for halo3 since the release of halo2. besides, what self respecting xbox360 owner doesn't want to/ won't own halo3? i preordered my copy.

hmmm... other than the upcoming DMC4 and the super puzzle fighter remake, i cant think of a single capcom game on the ps3. it does seem like a major slight.

i can still play capcom games on my 360, so i dont really miss out on anything either way. but after capcom talking up their multiplatform strategy so much for the last two years, it comes across as a lie and platform favoritism since they havent done anything for the ps3.

lets use halo3 as an example. if it ran at a native HD resolution the number of jaggies would have been reduced, period.

upscaling often times creates additional jaggies since the output is being approximated to the nearest pixel. many games hide these by using multiple anti aliasing passes. since halo3 decided to opt for better lighting over AA, the jaggies stand out more.

my point is that creating a game that outputs a lower resolution still requires later tr...

@angrytypingguy:

thats the point to this list. most 360 games are not running at their advertised screen resolutions. whether they are smooth or not isnt really being argued. its just that they aren't even proper HD games.

edit: this second list says that NG:S is 720p, but thats incorrect. so who knows?

the flat world in the sonic games is a long shot to compare to mario galaxy. the worlds [complete with objects and enemies] in going commando are much closer to mario galaxy. in fact the level design almost seems like they could be used interchangably.

@ mk_red: change deserved to 'needed', and i agree 100%. if mario galaxy or R&C flop, there sill still be another sequel. look at the sonic games. psychonauts needed to be a hit in order to establish itself as a franchise.

very good point, however:

1) until now there has never been as huge a gap as with between the wii and other consoles.

2) the dominance of casual gamers can not be relied upon since their tastes are fickle and hard to extrapolate due to lack of prior experience in the market.

3) even when speaking of the "weaker" consoles, each console has thusfar been a step up from their previous technology. this generation nintendo seems to have done a...

very true, however none of the various SKUs have thusfar affected to actual output quality or any base functionality of the console. there is very little to no difference between three of the four sony SKUs.

the core 360 is still useless w/o a memory card, and to this very day memory card size still limits the ability of developers to work with the system somewhat. add to the fact that games need to be able to run w/o hard drive reliance and the difference in the 360 skus are m...

honestly, im grown and i work. it doesn't bother me that games are released like its some race. i own both consoles and i generally play my ps3 more [this week has been all about halo3 though]

the truth is: yes, it would be nice to have every release be a AAA game, but some games are not. in my 25+ years of gaming, some of my favorite games of all times wouldnt even be considered AAA.

im pleased with my ps3, and yes there are strange quirks i dont like. but you k...

halo3 has a large number of weapons, but resistance makes up for it in the variety each gun brings to the table. since they all have secondary fire modes.

also, are you counting the weapons you acquire in resistance when you start your second campaign? its funny, but some people still dont even know that there are more weapons in the game if you play through a second time.

6686d ago 4 agree0 disagreeView comment

i disagree with the balance thing. some of the weapons are ridiculously underpowered in halo3. SMG anyone? the dual wield weapons are pointless if you only have one; the spiker being a slight exception.

also, the melee attacks are so powerful to the point where you find alot of close quarters combat actually defaults to: shoot, shoot, shield down, melee or shoot, shoot, hes too close, quick melee for the kill.

uhm no, that doesnt make you hardcore... that makes you a multiplayer gamer. some games are deep and give you actual replay value, not by simply taking the [sometimes] easy way out and adding multiplayer. look at a game like disgaea; its easy to drop hundreds of hours into it w/o multiplayer. also see games with time attack and survival modes; the first metal gear solid comes to mind.

what makes you hardcore is the time and energy you spend gaming.

using your jus...
