Sony was great in every area a few years back but their products run of Sharp or Samsung parts and charged at a higher cost, so why by Sony when the companies that supply them have higher spec products for a lower price? Sonys problem was 1: PS3 development cost initially, 2. The price point they set and thinking making a loss on the machine but profit on software was a good business model, 3. Displacent with their positions and counting out Nintendo with the Wii, 4. MS took their spot, 5, copying the wii remote with the move and not being original, 6. PS Vita, 7. Bringing out products that ARE OVER PRICED when other companies like Samsung do it better and cheaper.
