I'm pretty sure it triples the next game in terms of garbage time as well though.

Now don't get me wrong, I agree with you that the game is more than fine despite its flaws, but the amount of time the game demands to accomplish much of anything doesn't somehow make it beyond reproach. It's not worth excessively complaining about it, but it's not really worth too much effort defending a shallow game with an ensuing mountain of DLC either.

Eh, well, 6 months/100+ hours out of a $60 game + a $20 expansion to be completely fair.

I agree that anyone buying into the game should have been more than aware of the limitations of an MMO without a subscription, but I think it's more than fair for them to complain about what they couldn't have know beforehand. I'm not going to sit here and say the game's problems are something worth complaining on and on about it, but Bungie's questionable design choic...

Alright, this is has run its course as you are obviously not connecting with my point here, so let me just finish with this:

1) I never put words into anyone's mouth, Jaffe or otherwise. It was a belief, not a quote.

2) The quality and enjoyment of even a 100 hours put into a MMO hybrid like Destiny has PLENTY to do with how someone could still find the experience "short". Not all playtime is created equal, especially in carrot and stick MMO'...

@wsoutlaw87

That's exactly a part of my point however. Playtime in and of itself should have no bearing on how players are allowed to regard their experience, especially when the game was supposed to transcend typical games of its genre.

I agree that having less content than expected doesn't automatically make a game bad, but players getting varying degrees of enjoyment out of often artificially extended playtime doesn't automatically disqualify t...

Time sink =/= great game.

It didn't completely kill the game for me, but TDB did leave a very damaging impression that's going to be pretty hard to shake. The expansion added more problems than it fixed, and I'm rapidly losing the willingness to deal with them while grinding for equipment that will only be obsolete in a little over a month.

Even the raid should have matchmaking despite all of the excuses made against including it, there is no reason for it not being an option at all for those who would want to try it. Sensible matchmaking requirements, or at the very least dedicated lobby areas with better ways to communicate with players in-game, would be a vast improvement over the current setup that relies entirely on third-party sites to organize access to some of the games most important content.

Sadly, I fear it is more likely that Zero and the REmake will be vouchers alongside a few repackaged physical copies of last-gen titles. I'm hoping you're right and my gut feeling is wrong on this, but some of these recent franchise anthologies haven't been all that encouraging in terms of being fully disc-based releases.

I agree, despite some of it's annoyances it was still a solid survival horror experience, which cannot be said about either 5 or 6.

Even if we somehow lived in a reality where all of that skewed corporate rhetoric were actually true - An industry that can only sustain itself by robbing consumers of all control over their increasingly watered-down and dissected purchases is a failed industry that should be allowed to die.

A hasty 200-300kb patch to do away with an exploit that spotlighted just how brain-dead the loot system is may not be a "slap in the face", but it certainly comes off as a bad joke, especially considering the multitude of other lingering issues with the game.

Buying a copy of the game through Steam is 'still' putting yourself at the mercy of corporations, regardless of what you have deluded yourself into believing.

A DRM-riddled copy of FFXIII that only runs on a closed-source OS does not equal preservation.

Hence your point based on that logic is invalid.

What you view as just "multiple old boxes" I consider platforms that allowed me complete control over the access to my purchases, completely independent from both the publishers and vendors, which is something that cannot be said about any of my Steam purchases.

So you're pretty much saying the lower the initial score, the more the critic is obligated to go back and skim for extra credit to pad it? The funny part is that courtesy of the unacceptably long list of dissected features, any critic actually following that logic would probably find more reasons to lower the score than add to it.

I agree, I've always felt that a whipping 360 camera tends to negatively affect the overall experience in a survival horror game.

I'm personally hoping for what Kojima mentioned in the article about the possibility of there being a primarily fixed third person camera with a switch to first for certain sections. I think it would be a nice blend of classic SH and the new PT approach, especially if there is more of an emphasis on town exploration to go along with various...

"That being said, it DID rely on a jump scare - but it EARNED it due to the suspense and terror it had built to."

This. I've seen many gamers fail to realize the enormous difference between a cheap jump scare and one that has actually been earned. It's rather unfair to lump all types of jump scares together, because the effort and skill behind them can vary quite a bit.

An inspired Kojima with the likes of del Toro at his side is exactly what both the franchise and the genre itself needed.

Which still didn't prevent it from being one of the best releases of the year so far.

If you're going to do a customer loyalty program: Do. It. RIGHT. Or just don't bother, because it will accomplish the exact opposite of why they even exist in the first place.

Loyalty programs like Club Nintendo aren't operated out of the kindness of their corporate hearts, they're calculated business maneuvers. The sole reason for their existence is to encourage customers to maintain or increase their normal spending through incentives. Why then, is it consid...
